If preterm labor.: If your infection/fever cause preterm labor, then sure you can have a bad pregnancy outcome. I hope you have received intravenous Rocephin (ceftriaxone) for what sounds like pyelonephritis! a maternal-fetal medicine specialist should be following you at this time! ...Read more

A child of 3 years age having fever of last 7 days , fever didn't subside after using calpol, febrol and now using cefixime to treat infection?

Must identtify cause: Antibiotics should not automatically be given to anyone just for aver. Fever lasting 7 days certainly needs a work up. Is it a viral, urinary tract infection, mononucleosis, chest infection etc.with an organism resistant to cefixime. Suggest your child sees his pediatrician & has a complete physical examination including a urine test. ...Read more

How long would the symptoms of kidney infection last after treatment has started?

How long would the symptoms of kidney infection last after treatment has started?

Pyelonephritis: An infection of the kidney (pyelonephritis) results in severe back pain, high fever and nausea/vomiting. Unlike an infection only involving the bladder, the ascension of bacteria into the kidney is a dangerous event. Since the kidney is swollen, it may take a few weeks for your back pain to get better. If you are referring to a bladder infection, the urgency/frequency and pain improves in a week. ...Read more

How many days would it usually take for rales , rhonchi in to disappear after starting treatment and fever subsiding after 24 hours of treatment?

Pneumonia symptoms: It can take up to a week sometimes for those "noises" to disappear after starting appropriate treatment. You are now killing the bacteria causing the infection and noise, but now your body has to get rid of all that "garbage" down in the lungs. Do deep breathing and cough exercises to help loosen the material and open lung sacs and by all means avoid ANY respiratory irritants such as smoke, dust, ...Read more

What is the duration of severe neutropenia after Vidaza Treatment for MdS? Last vidaza Cycle ended 20 days ago. GSf given but no response yet.

What is the duration of severe neutropenia after Vidaza Treatment for MdS? Last vidaza Cycle ended 20 days ago. GSf given but no response yet.

4-6 weeks: Vidaza can cause prolonged neutropenia which can be followed by remission and recovery of neutrophils....but you need to give yourself 1 to 2 more weeks. On the other hand blood counts can remain very low if the MDS is resistant to Vidaza in which case there may not be any recovery of Neutrophils. A Bone marrow exam can help to differentiate these 2 possibilities and help in deciding the next step ...Read more

Husband on amox generic for seven days for sinus infection...Took last pill 7 days ago. As of last night, has fever 103.3. Felt better after starting amox. Does he need a different type of antiobiotic? Time for er?

Typically : Typically sinus infections are treated for a minimum of ten days. If he is still having fever after 7 days then the antibiotics were not sufficient to cover his infection or the treatment was not long enough. He needs to be reevaluated. He should follow up with his primary care provider, if he is unable, an urgent care is a good choice. Good luck. ...Read more

One month after being treatrd with 14 days antibiotic tratment of typhoid fever, can I preapare food for my family now?

Salmonella typhi : According to literature about 1-4% of patients with salmonella typhi infection become chronic carriers and hence can be contagious for up to a year or longer. You need to have stool cultures to determine if you still have salmonella bacteria in your feces. I would avoid handling and preparing any food for now, especially raw foods/salads and use very thorough hand hygiene ...Read more

Can someone with no earlier symptoms of TB get TB meningitis & go unconscious all of sudden just after having severe headache for few days?

Can someone with no earlier symptoms of TB get TB meningitis & go unconscious all of sudden just after having severe headache for few days?

Unlikely: Mycobacterium tuberculosis is spread by inhaling respiratory particles from an infected person. Tb is a slow-growing bacteria, taking months or years to cause infection. It is possible but very rare for TB to cause disseminated infection (like tuberculous meningitis) without first causing pulmonary (like shortness of breath) or constitutional symptoms (like weight loss or night sweats). Take care! ...Read more

Is there any use 4 taking acyclovir after three weeks of symptoms. At 1st diagnosed w/bell's palsy now severe pain, maybe herpes oticus or ramsay hunt?

Probably not: It might be too late for acyclovir. You might benefit from anti-inflamatory drugs and analgesics for pain. Discuss your symptoms with your doctor and she or he will help you.
