Treatment for one-sided paralysis?

Transient?: Hemiplegic migraine can cause temporary "one-sided paralysis", but if this is permanent, it is important to have a full evaluation. Treatment is based on causation. Best to start with a primary care physician and consider neurological consultation. ...Read more

Palsy (Definition)

...is a corruption of French "paralise" from Latinized Greek "paralysis." In the old days it meant any kind of persistent weakness. To this day Parkinson's disease is also called "paralysis agitans" which is a Latin translation of Dr. Parkinson's original name for it, the "shaking palsy." We've obviously reborrowed the full form "paralysis" into English as well; today ...Read more

35 yr-old started with paresthesias 4 yrs ago, that generalized to include autonomic symptoms and gastroparesis, looking for effective treatment.....?

Neuro exam?: Interesting case, but I'd like to know about her neuro exam. By the history, her symptoms haven't progressed in a length-dependent manner (especially given the facial sensory involvement) and this points me toward a sensory neuronopathy aka sensory ganglionopathy. These patients would be expected to have proprioceptive impairment-- if she is still a dance instructor, I doubt her proprioception is impaired. If her neuro exam and nerve conduction study are truly normal, I suspect any additional testing will be normal as well. ...Read more

What is the most effective treatment for tinnitus problem, cannot sleep please suggest me a treatment?

Masking is possible: There is no medical treatment for tinnitus. Patho-physiology is now understood to be an increase in synchronous electrical discharge in the auditory nervous system. An audiologist can match the pitch and intensity of the tinnitus and sometimes, this masker (hearing aid) can decrease the awareness of the tinnitus. Also identify if you have a hearing loss. Recently diagnosed with palatal myoclonus. What medical treatment is nest for myoclonus? Is Functional Cranial Release (FCR) a valid treatment?

Myoclonus: Often medical providers use medication to treat myoclonus. Sometimes palatal myoclonus does not need any treatment. I would not recommend it until it has been well-studied. ...Read more

I am diagnosed with Trigonitis and offered surgery as treatment. Are thete other options for treatment? which is best? Thanks

Yes: There are many causes for trigonitis. Surgery rarely treats any of them. Sometimes a surgery called cystoscopy is needed to look at the trigone and bladder to help determine the cause. Diet (avoiding caffeine and tomatoes, and carbonation), avoiding nicotine, and getting plenty of fluid intake are all helpful in controlling trigonitis. ...Read more

Is there any proper treatment for viral encephalitis with polycythemia ? Pt is 17 years old and over 6 month in icu waiting for good treatment

Missing information: You get more from the site when you provide better background information. Just listing "Viral" doesn't give much to work with. If it has lasted 6 mo and the patient is in the ICU I suspect it is Herpes encephalitis that has not responded to treatment and the prognosis is poor. Once the infection has lasted that long the damage is often permanent. ...Read more

What to do if I'm 52, have niddm for 17 years (from the age of 35). is there any permanent cure for niddm in homeopathy treatment?

No homeopathy cure: Homeopathy works by treating specific symptoms. It does not cure disease but can be very helpful with managing a wide range of symptoms. Even the same symptom, such as nausea, requires different medications depending the details. For example - nausea that feels better after vomiting is treated with one medication but nausea that feels better with fresh air is treated with another. ...Read more

I have 25*14 mm sized cold multi nodular goiter which is benign as per investigation reports. Should i go for surgical treatment?

Nodular goiter: I would not worry about a nodular goiter if the thyroid blood levels are OK and you are not really troubled by slightly enlarged thyroid nodules. That said, if your doctor recommends thyroid surgery you will be referred to a thyroid surgeon who will tell you what needs to be done or what is not necessary to be done, at least for now. ...Read more

What options exist for the effective treatment of a life-threatening multi-drug resistant strain of n. gonorrhea?

No such thing: There is concern that multi-drug resistance in Neisseria gonorrhoeae (the gonorrhea bacteria) could evolve in the future, but it hasn't happened yet. When it does, there probably will still be some reliable treatment options. Although this may be a serious public health concern someday, for now you needn't worry about it, especially in North America and western Europe. ...Read more
