My friend has a water retention during chemotherapy because the leukemia. He has urine retention 0,5-1 liters a day. Does he need the Lasix (furosemide) therapy?

Edema: If your friend is accumulating water, she needs to speak to the oncologist directing the chemotherapy or her internist to see if diuretic therapy is appropriate in her case. Does urine retention usually cause many symptoms?

Does urine retention usually cause many symptoms?

Yes: Retention can be partial or complete. Obviously if one cannot void at all the bladder can only stretch so far until it becomes very painful. When someone can empty partially but leave more than 100 cc behind, then frequency of voids increases along with the risk of uti. The cause should be found- most older women have a fallen bladder, and younger ones can have spasms in the pelvic floor muscles. ...Read more

Can you tell me if ya bladder is malfunction and you have urine retention where does the urine go?

Can you tell me if ya bladder is malfunction and you have urine retention where does the urine go?

Stays in bladder: With urinary retention, the bladder is not able to be emptied. This causes the bladder to enlarge and distend, resulting in pain and discomfort. In severe cases, your kidneys can lose function because the urine made in the kidneys then can't leave the body. In men, the most common cause is an enlarged prostate. Loss of bladder contractility is another cause. See a urologist. ...Read more

How can fear cause un-intended urination althought sympathetic ns cause urine retention ?

How can fear cause un-intended urination althought sympathetic ns cause urine retention ?

Sympathetic Overload: After an overwhelming sympathetic stimulation occurs (horrific fear), the sympathetic portion may shut down temporarily. The unopposed parasympathetic system, in concert with loss of sympathetic tone, can then cause contraction of the bladder wall with relaxation of the urinary sphincter. Thus, increased sympathetic tone from meds e.g. Sudafed, can cause retention inversely to the above. ...Read more
