I read some article online a while back saying that supplementing with vitamin D3 could cause calcification of heart valves/ arteries? Is it safe?

Very safe but...: Vitamin d3 is very safe ; of tremendous benefit for preventing many illnesses. It helps our bodies to absorb calcium. I advise everyone to take d in the fall ; winter months. But it's also wise to take vitamin k (or eat foods rich in vit k) as that helps assure the calcium goes into our bones ; doesnnot wind up in our arteries or heart valves. Is D3 supplementation safe? Saw there is conflicting evidence that it can cause issues such as calcification of heart valves? Better to just use sun?

Vitamin D: Nope. You have this wrong or are reading untruths. You will have a healthier life if you normalize and keep your vitamin d normal. The sun is not necessarily the answer. To get the sun to stimulate vitamin d, the sun has to be at a certain angle high in the sky. Sun and vitamin d, now known, is about physics as much as about exposure. Take your daily vitamin d. ...Read more

Have small vessell disease of the brain and the heart that causes severed headache when i over exert and I have chest pain and jaw what treatment?

Tough problem: I can't make recommendations, but diffuse small vessel disease can be tough to manage. Stents and bypasses to the heart need a minimum diameter and only work with discrete blockages not a narrowing of an entire vessel. Treatment often involves anti-platelets (aspirin etc) aggressive diabetes control, cholesterol control, diet, weight loss. Talk with your doctor maybe second opinion if not happy. ...Read more

Generally excellent: It is quite common place for patients over age 65 to undergo aortic valve replacement surgery for calcific degenerative disease with or without coronary bypass. Mom had heart angiography put to wires in her heart veins cause was blocked, now has hematoma in inner thigh, dr said it ok , but worried how to cure?

Give it time: Sounds like she has a stent put in a blocked heart artery. The access was from the artery in the groin to thread the device in place. She may have vs hematoma around the puncture site that causes the swelling and skin color change. This will resolve. If it persists or enlarges the md should examine the area. ...Read more

I have heavy calcification of the infrarenal abdominal aorta. I showed my heart doctor and he said its nothing to worry about. A smoker 4 years worrie?

Entitled to a 2nd op: If you are not happy, sure or confident with the cardiologist's opinion, you can always see a second one for a second opinion. Most doctors are not insulted by that because they realize sometimes a 2nd opinion from an expert is reassuring to the patient and ultimately everybody wants the patient to be healthy. ...Read more
