That depends: Crown lengthening takes less time, but can make the tooth look longer. This is usually not a problem for back teeth, but can create an esthetic problem for an upper front tooth. Orthodontic forced eruption takes longer to achieve but can give a cosmetically better result in the end. Depends: Extrusion (orthodontics) will pull up the bone and gingival tissue with the extruding tooth, whereas periodontal surgery will probably leave some soft tissue cosmetic defect as it is removing gum and bone. But as the tooth is extruded, the portion at the gum level is narrower in diameter than normal, possibly leaving larger spaces between the teeth. I recommend getting a periodontal consult. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

What's the best treatment for a baby with teething pain?My 10 month old son has 2 teeth erupting at the same time and seems to be in great discomfort.

Yes BUT: Are you having this elective study just to entertain your out of town relatives? If so, you should reschedule to the next indicated time as determined by your ob. Spondi: Most often, surgery is not required to treat this. If your son does not have any pain in the back or legs, then surgery would not be recommended.
