14 months back my wife(39) had MRI hifu treatment for uterine fibroid. There is not much reduction in size, also she has pain in her leg. Any advise?

See below: I am not sure what could be causing the pain in her leg as i would need more detail. However; even with treatment, depending on dense and how large the fibroid is it may not completely shrink and sometimes it may continue by small amounts over time, but it may not completely disappear. Have her see her doctor for further evaluation. ...Read more

Can pregnant via IVF woman get root canal treatment? My wife is 42 years of age, and getting pregnant through ivf, hopefully in next few weeks.

Is it okay for the health of the mother and the child, if my wife goes for root canal to a dentist while she i

Probably: Check with obgyn, as every situation is different. In general, major essential dental work should be completed before planned medical procedures as to not leave problems unaddressed that could develop into pain and/or infection that could affect both mother and child. Elective dental work should be left for after the 1st trimester. Emergencies, including root canals, should be dealt with quickly, . ...Read more

If insert unflavored yogurt into my vagina as a natural alternative treatment for bacterial vaginitis, will that help? Because no other medicine has.

Maybe: Some have argued for yogurt both in your diet and as a treatment in the past, but unproven... My concern would be about cleanliness... Would definitely reccomend physical by md if not already done... He can better help you. ...Read more

My 6 week old baby girls hemoglobin this week has dropped to 6.9 she has been on 0.5ml of iron & 0.1ml of folic acid for 5 weeks. (Suffered possible placenta abruption) is this not dangerous?

My 6 week old baby girls hemoglobin this week has dropped to 6.9 she has been on 0.5ml of iron & 0.1ml of folic acid for 5 weeks. (Suffered possible placenta abruption) is this not dangerous?

Timing: this is the time that many young babies reach their lowest level of hemoglobin. It is a low count but if baby seems healthy. then some watchful waiting may be called for. Would have your doctor contact a neonatologist (newborn care specialist) or a hematologist( blood specialist) for clarification ...Read more

My mother is 72 years old and has been on a ventilation for approximately 15 days. She is slowly healing. Other things to help her?

Nutrition & therapy: I'm sorry to hear that she's on a ventilator but glad that she's slowly healing. Optimal nutrition is key to getting healthy. We typically recommend feeding thru stomach when possible rather than just intravenous (IV). This may entail temporary tube placed into stomach. Physical & occupational therapy is important to regain/maintain strength. Also something to prevent blood clots, too. Good luck! ...Read more

My 16 year old. daughter is out of the country. I can't reach her for 4 days. The hospital called. She has a kidney infection. Will she be ok?

My 16 year old. daughter is out of the country. I can't reach her for 4 days. The hospital called. She has a kidney infection. Will she be ok?

Depends on how : Serious the infection is . If she has a bladder infection she will be very uncomfortable and likely seek care. If she has a pyelonephritis she will have a fever and feel very ill . She will then certainly seek medical care. As long as she had access to a hospital or doctor and is not alone she should be ok. If you feel she is not near care you should notify the authorities at her location. ...Read more

My mother had intracerebral hemorrhage in 1996 (16 years ago. Her left side is getting stiff. Can you advise any medicine or treatment for her muscles?

Increased tone: She is likely experiencing increased tone and spasticity on the side that is opposite the intracerebral hemorrahage. Physical and occupational therapy and rehabilitation medicine are key to help to keep the muscles fluid and mobile. There are a host of medications that are designed to help with the muscle spasticity (ie. Valium, baclofen). ...Read more

Daughter has a pelvic kidney 1mo old diagnosed in utero what are the odds that her uterus and Fallopian tubes didn't develop properly or at all? Help

Get a complete study: I am assuming that your daughter had the pelvic kidney diagnosed by prenatal ultrasound. This is an anomaly of the genitourinary system - not the reproductive system. You may see associated uterine anomalies but most often the pelvic kidney is isolated. I suggest you complete the ultrasound after she is born and look for a uterus and ovaries. This will answer your question. ...Read more
