Are there any herbs that have stimulant effects, for treating a child with attention deficit disorder?
Probably, but why?: Most of the herbal remedies touted for treating adhd have some type of stimulant such as caffeine as the major active ingredient. Studies are scant to nonexistent, and manufacturing of these products are not under fda scrutiny. Caffeine is a weak stimulant with a short half-life, so it may help but probably wll require multiple doses. Prescription products are much better studied and effective. ...Read more
Recently diagnosed with palatal myoclonus. What medical treatment is nest for myoclonus? Is Functional Cranial Release (FCR) a valid treatment?
Myoclonus: Often medical providers use medication to treat myoclonus. Sometimes palatal myoclonus does not need any treatment. Here is a link to more information about myoclonus: http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/myoclonus/detail_myoclonus.htm I cannot find any medical literature supporting the use of FCR. I would not recommend it until it has been well-studied. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

You Bet There Is!!: First, you are better if taking a very potent ms medicine, such as tysabri (natalizumab) or gilenya, as "off label" both have shown ability to prevent brain atrophy, and improve fatigue and cognition. Second, have adequate levels of vit d, taking 5-10000 units daily. The traditional Alzheimer's meds do not help usually, but would consider a trial of 2 medical foods, axona, and cerefolin-nac, and ?Galantamine. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

24 yo male with classic pericarditis. Recurred despite treatment with colchicine, steroids, etc. What are the options for additional therapy.....?
Coxsackie B: Recurrent pericarditis is unlikely to be due to a bacteria. It is possible that Borrelia Burgdorferi infection or Moyamotoi can cause it although it is not widely accepted as a cause The most likely explanation is Coxsackie B infection. So I would check serologies and if positive you have only symptomatic treatment. Indomethacin can work well. Steroids also as might be the case here but should generally be avoided in viral infections. I would not let the neutrophilia put you off whether it is due to the steroids or not. ...Read moreSee 7 more doctor answers
