What is her 2?

What is her 2?

Gene, marker: Her2 refers to a gene present in many normal cells that codes for a cell surface protein. In 10-15% of breast cancers it is amplified (multiple copies producing a lot of the protein) which is associated with a more aggressive tumor. Herceptin (trastuzumab) (an antibody to the protein) reduces this aggressive nature. It's usually given with chemo for synergy. ...Read more

My baby just turned 1. Which is better 4 her, stick to baby formula or switch her 2 cow's milk? Which one is healthier? Thank you ☺

Depends: By the time a kid turns one, most have incorporated a variety of semisolid foods. These can easily make up for some of the special features of breast milk or formula. Regular milk, rather than low fat/skim is needed because baby uses the added fat to support brain growth which slows after 2. The extra in formula if not used end up in her pee. ...Read more

My 17 mth old keeps getting out of her "big girl" bed is it 2 soon 4 her? If not how do I get her 2 stay n bed? Shld I put her bk in2 a crib?

Big Girl Bed: Many toddlers get out of their bed for numerous reasons but continued redirection back to her bed will decrease these night time escapes. Letting her sleep with a favorite blanket or doll may help with the nighttime awakenings. Putting her back in the crib at this time may be more dangerous. But you may want to look into bed rails for toddler beds. ...Read more

Newborn is 1mth old and weighs 9lb 12oz. I'm feeding her 2.5oz of formula. Is this enough for her current weight? Or shud she be drinking more?

Volume counts: Babies have a stomach capacity of about half their pound weight in ounces. A 10 lb baby should be able to accommodate 5 oz and pushing the volume up gradually can help increase the time between feedings. As long as baby empties every bottle they can probably handle a little more. ...Read more

My niece is 3 months preg...Goin to a beach, but? Is. Is it safe 4 her 2 go "tubing" if boat goes slower 4 her?

Stop her: I've seen too many "tubing" mishaps to recommend this. Sure it's safe at low speeds...And if you don't flip...And if you don't ram into anything...And if you don't accidentally run over something.... (the list goes on & on). No one - no one goes slow while tubing, even if granny's turn is next. Trust me, pass on the tubing & I can guarantee no regrets should something happen. Stay safe my friends... ...Read more

My daughter is prescribed Zantac (ranitidine) 2.5 ml bid. She only needs its at night. Do I give her 2.5 ml or 5 ml?

Ask your doctor.: Zantac (ranitidine) is most typically prescribed 2-4 times daily. For children, the doses are both age and weight dependent--and also depending on the diagnosis that triggered the use of this prescription. There are too many variables to accurately answer your question in this healthtap format. Please call your doctor and pose the question as you have done here. Great question! 8mo vomited due to coughing 10-15 minutes, maybe less, after taking her 2 ml of Cefdinir. Should I repeat her dosage or just add new day at the end?

Best to redose: Because of the way cefdinir works and because it is not known to be very toxic, it would be best to redose. Either way, be sure to involve the prescribing doctor as soon as possible. Depending on the type and severity of infection, s/he may decide to add additional doses/days of therapy. ...Read more

My 2 year old has a minor cold. Can I give her 2.5ml of children's mucinex cold, and still give her prescribed 5ml of children's zyrtec? She is 33 Lbs

My 2 year old has a minor cold. Can I give her 2.5ml of children's mucinex cold, and still give her prescribed 5ml of children's zyrtec? She is 33 Lbs

Better not: Children's Mucinex cold has more than one formulation, and some contain an antihistamine as zyrtec, you don't want to combine both, besides some ingredients in these formulations may have side effects on your toddler. As for the zyrtec, 2.5 ml (2.5mg) would be enough, saline nasal washes, acetaminophen (e.g. Tylenol) would be helpful, together with rest and fluids, if any problem, call/ see her MD ...Read more

My 3yr old has been chronically tired so I took her 2 a paediatrician. He found nothing. Ijust noticed her capillary refil time is very long 9 seconds?

Odd statement: I would expect a kid with a 9 second capillary refill time to be near death. Perhaps your definition of the maneuver is quite different than mine. I doubt that would be the case in a kid who is functional at any level. If you are concerned the doc has missed something find another and get a second opinion. ...Read more
