Hello. : Hello. I am answering this six days after you wrote it. I hope you are ok at this time. The information you provided did not state how far along you are in pregnancy. If you soaked four pads in an hour, this is not mild spotting. This may well be a miscarriage. It can be defintively determined by an ultrasound, a serum HCG (to see if levels are dropping or rising), or if products of conception are identified. Take care. ...Read more

Subchorionic bleeds: A subchorionic bleed can be passed usually as old brown blood. Usually there is very little cramping. A miscarriage involves very heavy bright red bleeding with severe cramping. If you are soaking 2 pads with clots every 15 minutes, i would suggest going to the er. Probably not.: Congratulations on your pregnancy! Any time there is spotting/bleeding in early pregnancy we are concerned for a miscarriage. However, having a reason for it (i.e. the subchorionic hematoma) and having seen the heartbeat on ultrasound (which I assume you have by now) significantly decrease your chances. That can be difficul: To say. A placental abruption is what this is called when it happens later in pregnancy, usually due to trauma. Your loss is classified as a miscarriage though it did happen later than usual. The bleeding can be like a chain reaction, blood, cramping then more tearing away.
