Would oral prednisone help a thrombosed external hemorrhoid thats failed tx w/ hc suppositories & cream? What's best for pain control?

Hemrrhoid: Oral Prednisone has not been well documented in the literature in the treatment of hemrrhoids. Keeping on a strict schedule of nsaids for their anti-inflammatory effect, barring no contra-indications in your personal history, would be beneficial to you. Severe pain possible anal fissure w/some bleeding for 5 months. Miralax (polyethylene glycol) softened too much. Citrucel = fissure pain back. OK to alternate both meds?

Several possibls: First you can reduce the dose of MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) to whatever level it needs to be to prevent you from being loose. You can also used scheduled emptying to be sure the lower bowel stays as empty as possible for as long as needed to heal. Twice a day works for most.Avoid the foods that plug like apples, pasta, bananas, and enjoy fruits that loosen if it helps.(Peaches, plums, prunes) ...Read more

Is surgery the only way of treatment of hemorrhoid for permanent relief?

Get diagnosed first: The short answer is no. The proper answer is see a doctor who can do an exam and correctly diagnose the problem first- such as a colorectal surgeon. I have external hemorrhoids (piles). Can I consume Arcoxia for pain relief? Or what can I do to relieve pain & cure it at home as quickly as possible?

Simple remedies: For piles, topical preparations work rather well - Preparation H, witch hazel pads, etc. Avoid alcohol and anything that can damage the liver, avoid fatty, rich foods. Arcoxia is a COX-2 inhibitor (like Celebrex (celecoxib) and the now-removed Vioxx) that is available in Australia - not sure where you are getting it from if you are in US. It can only help temporarily, and is best to avoid it if possible. ...Read more
