Sonogram (Definition)

An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more

Microscopic hematuria and cysto, bloodwork and ultrasound were fine. Malb/cre ratio was 156. I know that is high. Next steps are?

Microalbumin High: Blood in the urine most commonly arises in the setting of bleeding within the urinary system. However, sometimes blood can be in the urine because the kidney isn't filtering as it should, allowing the blood cells into the urine. Since your microalb/creat ratio is elevated, that could be a sign that the kidneys are leaking protein (not filtering well). You should see a nephrologist for evaluation. ...Read more

Is there such thing as a ultrasound for kidney? I have microscopic hematuria. Urine 500++

Yes: Ultrasound of the kidney is relatively quick, painless, and uses no ionizing radiation, so it is often the first imaging study performed to evaluate the kidneys. It may identify a potential cause of the hematuria. If it doesn't, further tests may need to be done. ...Read more

Can bladder cancer be seen on ultrasound? If u/s shows no tumor, should further testing be done on a child with gross terminal hematuria? Not a uti.

Here are some ...: Ultrasound study only gives a gross rough imaging assessment with low sensitivity for small lesions. So, it is an absolute saying no bladder cancer. Terminal gross hematuria suggests its origin from the urethra, especially prostate urethra. So, a cystourethroscopy under anesthesia is needed. But, how far an evaluation should go for? It should be individualized. So, ask and talk with Doc timely. ...Read more

I've had mucroscopic hematuria in urine for a year. 1 yr ago had CT abd/pel. Also recent ultrasound of bladder. Could it be undiscovered CA?

Cystoscooy: Hematuria can result from bleeding from the kidney, ureter, bladder or urethra. A thorough kidney work up should be done by a nephrologist to exclude diseases of the kidney. A urologist should do a Cystoscooy and possibly radiographic procedures to look at the ureters and collecting system of the kidneys. Causes of hematuria include stones, tumors, chronic cystitis, infections and nephritis. ...Read more

30 yr old female. Had renal ultrasound for micro hematuria. Left ureter jet wasn't firing. Kidney blood test normal. Could this be cancer?

Blood in urine: It is not likely that you have a cancer. I see you are taking anticoagulant meds. This can predispose to hematuria. Given the ultrasound finging of what could be slowed urine passage thru one ureter, coupled to microhematuria, I recommend further dialogue with your docs. An IVP or better, a CT-IVP is a valuable next test. ...Read more

Hematuria, and back up of urine in kidneys can be caused by what? Primary care provider only did ultrasound and u/a results were never sent to midwife

Hematuria, and back up of urine in kidneys can be caused by what? Primary care provider only did ultrasound and u/a results were never sent to midwife

Hematuria: Backup of urine in the kidneys at your age is usually due to obstruction of urine outflow from anywhere along the urinary system - kidneys, ureter, bladder, etc. If you were younger i might consider that urine from the bladder is going into the toilet and going backwards into your kidneys - reflux. However, hematuria is not seen with reflux so i would think there is a blockage somewhere. ...Read more
