Need good exam: If the tilt was the only problem, fixing the mechanics that caused it would be the first step. In most athletes, this is working on the quad to hamstring strength ratio and strengthening the gluteus medius (many accidently over strengthen the itb/tfl, the other hip abductors, which can worsen the problem). Reasonable to start with non-op sports med, and if hematoma needs to be drained, see ortho. ...Read more

At home PT: You should try an at home physical therapy program. I have been working on a program to relieve joint pain, and this also seems to speed up healing after trauma. If interested, then google "drnefcy. Com", and then google "Principles of Intrinsic Medicine". These sites have links to send me an email. ...Read more

I have a severe knee hematoma from a kayak crashing on knee 2 weeks ago. It was size of cantoloupe. Some blood was drained. Large n painful still.?

See a doctor: If you have had a knee trauma and it is still swollen and sore you should have plain films and an MRI to rule out a serious injury such as a fracture or internal derangement of the knee like a ligament or meniscus tear. If you have had it drained and it is still not right, you need to go back for re-evaluation. ...Read more

Could a hematoma on my leg below my knee cause pain, swelling and discomfort in my knee joint three years later?

Not likely: Hematoma in the leg would not cause knee problems.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
Practice safe sex, if you have sex. ...Read more

Vein running over knee cap swells, painful and then bursts. This happens a couple times a year. Leaves large hematoma. What's wrong?

Varicose veins?: I completely agree with dr. Landi. This is not something you want to ignore. You should see a vein specialist and have a standing venous ultrasound evaluation so you can get to the bottom of the problem and a treatment plan can be put together. ...Read more

Took a hit from a knee to the left rib cage a week agoEveryday hurts worst, no hematoma I CAN breathe right but hurts when I press on area. Fracture?

Fracture is possible: A knee to the rib cage can indeed result in a fracture. The only way to be certain would be a chest x-ray, but it is not necessarily indicated since it would not change management at this stage. Warm compresses anti-inflammatory meds and eliminating any activities that can worsen it should be avoided. Expect it to resolve in several weeks even if there is a fracture present. ...Read more

Hematoma: Following acl surgery especially if your own (autologous) bone patellar tendon bone graft is taken swelling, bruising in the ankle is not uncommon. Just make sure that you are not having any sharp calf pain where a doppler ultrasound would be helpful to be performed to rule out a blood clot. ...Read more

Fell on right knee on 02/02/14 X-ray showed broken patella. Mri on 02/09 showed large hematoma. On warfarin for prothestic aortic valve what can I do?

Basic option.: If the fracture is together and the pieces are not separated then a long leg knee brace can be used to let the fracture heals over six weeks. With the blood in the knee joint, which is the hematoma, from the broken kneecap, if it is a very swollen it can be drained and that fluid pressure can be reduced. I would also use gentle compression and intermittent ice. Discuss this further with your orthopedic surgeon. ...Read more
