Hx breast ca, US spleen meaning?: Multiple hyperechoic solid lesions, indeterminate nature. Hemangiomata possible but metastatic disease not excluded.

Your doc can explain: Your spleen has some shadows which require better imaging than what the Ultrasound produced. Your doctor should guide you further because it will take a CT scan or MRI test/s to provide a more clear picture of what the nature of these shadows in your spleen is. ...Read more

Week on ultrasound picture is gestational age or fetal age.?

Week on ultrasound picture is gestational age or fetal age.?

Both: Fetal age is of course the exact age of your fetus as determined by measurements taken of the baby. Fetuses have different rates of growth or may have problems with growth, so sometimes the measurement age doesn't match the "expected" gestational age. The best "age" is determined by an early ultrasound between 6 and 12 weeks gestation. Accuracy of ultrasound decreases as pregnancy progresses. ...Read more

Thyroid nodules -should patient know? Us features microcalcifications, shape, hypoechogenicity, type III color power doppler do doctors look carefully?

Thyroid nodules: Many people have thyroid nodules. Most are benign. There are many features that a radiologist will look for in thyroid nodules to help determine if further evaluation is needed. The most important features are calcification, taller than wide nodules and irregular microlobulations. If need be a fna or core biopsy can be preformed. ...Read more

Can we find the gender of baby with anomaly scan report images. ?

Can we find the gender of baby with anomaly scan report images. ?

In certain countries: The Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques Act (PNDT) of 2002 in your native country of India prohibits ultrasound physicians from determining the gender of your infant, in an attempt to reduce female feticide. Although it is possible that your physician saw the gender of your baby during scanning, it is unlikely that a picture of the sex organs was saved. Be happy with your baby regardless of gender. ...Read more

How accurate are genetic pedigrees?

How accurate are genetic pedigrees?

Often incomplete: A pedigree is a standard diagram of your family history, using squares for males, circles for females, joining lines for marriage and offspring. Traits/diseases are indicated by marking the circles or squares, the patterns revealing inheritance mechanisms. Accuracy depends on completeness of family information and the knowledge/experience of the historian/interpreter (think clinical geneticist). ...Read more

Do the symptoms of congenital adrenal hyperplasia differ by gender?

Yes: Persons with the most common form congenital adrenal hyperplasia (cah) have a predisposition to making extra testosterone. U/s on 1/20/14 gave measurement of 11w4d measuring the fetus at 4.8 cm. Could 11/25/13 be conception date? What is the accurate conception date?

U/s on 1/20/14 gave measurement of 11w4d measuring the fetus at 4.8 cm. Could 11/25/13 be conception date? What is the accurate conception date?

11/14/13: Based on the information you provided, the 'average' date of conception would be appx 11/14/13. While 11/25 could be the conception date, it's highly unlikely. Most first trimester ultrasounds are the most accurate ultrasound we have for dating a pregnancy. Typically standard deviation of error is +/- 5 days. Which would be as early as 11/9 or as late as 11/19. Thus, 11/25 is an outlier. ...Read more

How accurate are these Framingham cardiac risk calculators for 35 old males?

Not great.: The risk factors analyzed statistically aren't explaining the outcomes. BUT 1) we know it's age related and 35 is low risk. 2) prior personal history explains things better than risk models (if previous personal heart disease risk zooms up). 3) http://www.cvriskcalculator.com/ ...Read more

It sounds: like you had a breast ultrasound as well. Obviously limited info and incomplete description, but based on those descriptors, it is probably a BIRADS category 3 lesion(98% or greater chance of being benign). Most commonly, a mass with this description is a benign fibroadenoma. ...Read more

Fundal uterine fibroid not responding to hormone treatment (not shrinking) - injections 6months - concerns of sarcoma - will sarcoma show on MRI?

Fundal uterine fibroid not responding to hormone treatment (not shrinking)
 - injections 6months - concerns of sarcoma - will sarcoma show on MRI?

Very very unlikely: Unfortunately gynecological oncologists and radiologists have not found an accurate imaging technique to diagnose a uterine sarcoma which is very unlikely to "show on MRI". The lack of response of "your fundal uterine fibroids to hormone treatment" is not a reliable sign either. Consult an experienced gynecologist about uterine fibroid biopsy or a laparoscopic myomectomy if you remain "concerned" ...Read more
