Motrin and lotion: Unfortunately the options here are generally fairly limited. Having said that much of the discomfort is often the result of swelling and that can be helped with medicines such as Motrin or advil which work to reduce the swelling. In addition use of lotions and ice in the early periods will certainly help as well.
