Smoker I've been coughing up phlegm tinged with blood at times I had a CT scan it states that their is cystic changes and a parenchymal density lung
?

Parenchymal density: is a very nonspecific term, unfortunately. It could mean anything from scar to mass to pneumonia to collapse of a small lung segment. Without the images to review, it is difficult to determine. Likewise, there are both acute and chronic causes of cystic changes. The nonspecific report verbiage needs to be interpreted in conjunction with the images themselves and your clinical picture. ...Read more

Heavy phlegm comes out when I cough. Does this mean that I have poor lung health?

Not necessarily: Sputum production can come from postnasal dripwhich normally results from allergies. Also, some patients with sputum have gastroesophageal reflux disease. From a pulmonary standpoint, many patients with a variety of respiratory disorders complain of sputum production. To be sure what's causing the sputum, i would recommend a full history by a physician. ...Read more

I quit smoking marijuana ive been a heavy user but now i stopped cold turkey and i cough out phlegm with brown specks and left lung hurts sometimes?

See a doctor: The symptoms might be caused by irritation of your airways or lung tissue, but might also represent an infection of the airways (bronchitis) or lungs (pneumonia). It is best to see a doctor as soon as possible. If you develop difficulty breathing in the meantime it would be best to go to the ER. Good luck! ...Read more

I have a cough and i observed that I dont produce that much phlegm now after 6 days but I feel some heaviness in my chest.. What is it?

Chest "heaviness": The only way in which this can be answered is for you to be examined, your chest auscultated with a stethoscope and possibly undergoing a chest x-ray if felt necessary by the diagnosing doctor. If this continues or you have any trouble breathing see somebody ASAP. Good luck and hope you feel better soon. ...Read more

Every morning I cough up brown phlegm. I don't have a fever. I'm always short of breath and feel heavy in my chest. I don't smoke.

Every morning I cough up brown phlegm. I don't have a fever. I'm always short of breath and feel heavy in my chest. I don't smoke.

Get checked: Chest heaviness and shortness of breath in a 43yo male could implicate heart disease and you need to be checked for potential risk factors. Mucus is secreted all along the respiratory tract to catch particulates and as a barrier to infection, so some process (irritant exposure, infection, allergy, structural abnormality) is inducing its production. More info is needed to help predict cause. ...Read more

Poor Asthma Control: Sounds like you have a history of poorly controlled asthma. With 4 months of worsening cough and atelectasis on CXR I would recommend seeing a physician who specializes in managing asthma like an allergist or pulmonologist if not already done so in order to get better control of your symptoms. ...Read more

2 month wet cough. Bronscopy yesterday. Clean put lungs with fluid. Cough was better. Today, have wet cough with phlegm.

Lung (Definition)

Deoxygenated blood enters the lungs from the right side of the heart and travels to the lungs. When you inspire, oxygen flows into the lungs, transverses the capilliares and attaches to hemoglobin down a gradient. At the same time, co2 diffuses into the capilaries and is expelled with exhalation. Oxygen rich blood then flows to the left side of the heart and into the ...Read more

Cough (Definition)

The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system.
