Heavy Bleeding After Taking Norethisterone
Been heavy bleeding nearly 3wks on ortho micronor (norethindrone). Stopped pills today. How long does it take for bleeding to stop?
Breakthrough bleed: Breakthrough bleeding (bleeding at the wrong time) is very common on birth control. It happens in about 1/3 of users. Its no big deal and usually self corrects over time. If you are not satisfied or it continues to happen then consider using a different birth control method. It is a common side effect and does not mean something is wrong or that the pill is not working. ...Read more

I have been off of Depo-Provera provera for 2 months. On ortho micronor (norethindrone) now, and have constant heavy bleeding. Bad reactions to all other birth control. Help!
Abnormal bleeding: Depo Provera and micronor (norethindrone) are generally very safe methods of contraception with a lower risk of blood clots, heart attack, and stroke than many other methods. However, these methods are commonly associated with abnormal/irregular bleeding. Contact your md for options. ...Read more
Have been taking norethisterone to stop bleeding after my copper coil fell out. Its been over a week now and I am still bleeding heavy is this normal?
Call your doc.: Bleeding for more than 7 days, means you need to call your doc to find out what to do next, or if you need to get seen. I Am having mid cycle bleeding similar to a period. Very heavy. My last period ended only 1 week ago. I have been taking Micronor (norethindrone) for 1 1/2 months?
Micronor (norethindrone): As with all progesterone only contraceptives, abnormal bleeding is a side effect. This could mean no bleeding at all or bleeding every day, or anything in between. Keep a calendar of episodes of bleeding. It usually takes 3-6months before you will settle into whatever pattern you will end up having on the Micronor (norethindrone). ...Read more

On ortho micronor (norethindrone) birth control. I am breastfeeding & haven't bled any til after a few days after starting the pill. Bleeding heavily. Is it normal?
Depends: How long have you been on it? Have you missed any pills? Missed pills will cause abnormal bleeding. Also this could be your regular period. The micronor (norethindrone) prevents pregnancy primarily by thickening cervical mucous so sorry can't get in, not by preventing ovulation and preventing you from bleeding. ...Read more
Less vaginal bleeding after taking norethisterone. 4 neg hpts, neg blood test, nothing shown on ultrasound. Can I still be pregnant?
Did you have protected sex? Did you miss a period. If the answer to both is no, there was no need for hpt. If you did the test correctly more than a week after missed period of the blood test was more than a day after a missed period, all were negative you are unlikely to be pregnant. You may repeat hpt in 3-4 days. Use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the test carefully.
If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time, every time. You may consider implanted contraceptive, or IUD.

Ultrasound results?: Ask your doctor if ultrasound results mentioned retained products of conception (RPOC). That is most concerning cause of continued bleeding after pregnancy termination. Is your pregnancy test still positive? Was your pregnancy intrauterine? Was ultrasound performed at an accredited facility? These are questions that need to be addressed by a gynecologist. ...Read more
I am taking norethisterone and have been for about 2 weeks. Today I had a bit of bleeding even though I didn't stop taking it. Is this normal?
Yes: Yes, irregular bleeding is expected for the first several months of therapy with a progestin-only birth control pill. It can be quite frequent in some women but generally slows down after 3 - 6 months. After 6 - 12 months of therapy or sometimes sooner, menstruation can stop altogether with regular use, and this is not unhealthy or unsafe. ...Read more

Is it possible to continuously take levelen to miss periods and take norethisterone to stop the breakthrough bleeding at the same time?
Doubtful: Norethindrone is a progesterone-only oral contraceptive pill, also called a "mini-pill." There are some reasons your doctor might prescribe this for you instead of a combination pill, however, the "mini-pill" is slightly less effective than the combination pill at preventing pregnancy. HCG = 0, so not pregnant now, but add condom and never miss pill if preventing pregnancy is very important. ...Read more
Norethisterone prescribed to help stop vaginal bleeding. Been bleeding for 3 months. Take 2 pills once a day x2weeks. Day 3 for me. How long it takes?
Not sure: Norethisterone tablets are progestogens, similar to the reproductive hormone progesterone, used more often in the U.K. The usual dose prescribed to stop abnormal bleeding is a 5 mg tablet three times a day for 10 days. With that, bleeding usually stops within 1-3 days. Assuming you have the 5 mg pills, you may not be getting a high enough daily dose to have the desired effect. Review plan with Doc ...Read more

Lmp 8 feb mised pd 4 neg hpt dr prscribd norethisterone. Lite bleeding after stopping Neg blood test cn I still b preg ?
If hpt and blood test were negative at more than a week after missed period, you are not likely to be pregnant. Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause. If you miss more than two periods it would be time to see your doctor. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time. You may consider implanted contraceptive or an IUD.
