I had a pap smear 3 days ago the first day I had spotting but the next 2 I have been having heavy bleeding. I have POS should I be concerned?

Not normal: Pap smear not associated with vaginal bleeding. If exam of cervix showed irritation there is always possibility of in-situ lesion of cervix but bx needed for dx. Blleeding if not obvious on cervical exam suggests origin from endometrium. Sonogram of uterus to see lining and possible bx of endometrium to see if that is site of blood. ...Read more

Not uncommon: When the pap smear was done the MD probably noted cervical redness and inflammation with blood vessels visible on the cervical surface. A pap smear involves cervical "scraping" which can in of itself produce bleeding post procedure, let alone when the surface blood vessels are present and easily interrupted. ...Read more

If it is a severe disorder, you should talk with your hematologist about how to do this safely.
