Consult PCP: Excess upper intestinal gas may be due to swallowing more than usual amount of air, while eating, drinking or chewing gum and it is a normal effect of bacteria on food, we eat. Illness: Start with clear liquid like water, soda that is clear, or sports hydration drinks. Sip often to prevent dehydration. Work up to solids with bland foods like bananas, rice, applesauce, toast, gelatin, or chicken. Avoid alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, dairy ; high fat foods. Rest. Gastroenteritis?: If this gets much worse get to a doctor and be evaluated. If diarrhea begins along with vomiting stay well hydrated and if you cannot, get to an ER. If the fever becomes worse go and get seen. In short, not enuf info to make a definitive recommendation, but this sounds as if it is any worse you should definitely be seen. If continues see MD.: Sometimes you can have residual inflammation for a short period after an infection heals. However certainly if it continues you should see your physician for an evaluation to be sure nothing else is going on. Also, were you taking aspirin or other anti-inflammatory agents for the virus, which may have upset your stomach. ...Read more

Food Born Illness: Usually foodborne illnesses hit fairly rapidly. Vomiting is not going to really help you very much. Ride this one out. Probiotics may be helpful as well so pick up some of those at any drugstore and take them twice-daily for a couple of weeks. Things should get back to normal fairly soon. Go see your DR: For a thorough exam. You may have stomach irritation. Otc Prilosec and antacids may work for now . Try some laxatives/ stool softeners. You may need endoscopy and colonoscopy for further workup in the future. Avoid caffeine , spicy foods , alcohol , soda to minimize heartburn. Bless you ! ...Read more

Stomach flu: The most common cause of these symptoms is a viral infection--gastroenteritis or stomach flu, which may include diarrhea. As long as the illness is not severe, it can be managed with ordinary otc medicines for the symptoms--peptobismol to calm the stomach, possible Pepcid or Prilosec for the acid, tylenol (acetaminophen) for stomach ache.
