No bowel movements for two weeks, today I have several sudden severely painful heart burn/reflux episodes, can these two be related?

Go to urgent care: If you truly haven't had a bowel movement for 2 weeks, I would advise you be seen by a physician sooner rather than later for workup and treatment. Please head to your nearest urgent care clinic or ER. I would recommend that you refrain from eating anything until you are seen to avoid making things worse. ...Read more

What medication can be taken for Gastritis ,heart burn ,reflux if one is allergic to omeprazole .I had acute allergic reaction to 10mg omeprazole .

Gastritis: Besides the PPIs which is the class of drug that omeprazole belongs to, there are H2 blockers class like ranitidine, pepcid (famotidine) and medication like sucralafate. Would discuss with your doctor before starting somethign new. Also check for H pylori a bacteria that has been associated with gastritis/ ulcers ,as gastritis due to h pylori will not heal unless it is treated w/ antibiotics. ...Read more

How long dose it take of not treting heart burn and reflux can it damage my esophagus if it happens every day?

Not really clear...: Not everyone who has heartburn gets esophageal damage & not every episode of reflux is acid-related. Consider a trial of acid-blocker medication as well as of anti-reflux behavior & diet restrictions (see earlier healthtap answers). About half of gastroesophageal reflux patients suffer gastroesophageal reflux-related esophageal disease--progressively redness, erosions, ulcers, stricture, barrett's. ...Read more

Constant acid reflux / heart burn. What could be causing it? Is it a sign on hiv? Even tho tested negative at 17weeks & no exposures since test.

Constant acid reflux / heart burn. What could be causing it? Is it a sign on hiv? Even tho tested negative at 17weeks & no exposures since test.

HIV and acid: So, HIV does not cause acid reflux. Look at the foods you're eating (rich or spicy foods, alcohol, acidic foods can all contribute), size of meals (larger meals make reflux more likely), steroid use, etc. If you've tried antacids, Prilosec, Nexium, (esomeprazole) etc, and still no relief, you need to see a GI doctor, who will likely need to take a look. Good luck! ...Read more

Esophageal spasms?: Non cardiac related chest pain and pressure requires a thorough evaluation including upper endoscopy and often manometric studies of the esophagus. High amplitude esophageal spasms can cause severe chest pain and this is often confused with chest pain from a cardiac etiology. Since you cardiac work-up is normal, this should be investigated further by your gastroenterologist. ...Read more
