Exercise everyday. Friend's sitting resting heart: 70bpm - 75bpm why? Heart Disease?

Variation: There can be a lot of variation between individuals resting heart rates. In general, the more "fit" you are cardiovascular wise, the lower your resting heart rate will be; so you friend may be a bit more "fit" than you. But in reality that's a very small difference and if many factors may contribute to day to day variations. Neither of those heart rate ranges suggest "heart disease". ...Read more

34 male EKG, echo stress. heart rate goes to 130-140 during play, but takes 30-45 min to below 100. Lungs burn when run.Out of shape? Heart issues?

Probably: If your heart tests are normal and it takes longer for your heart rate to return to baseline, it may suggest that you may be out of shape. You need to gradually build your stamina with regular workouts. You should get these wrist bands which tell your HR and BP in realtime. Start with walking 1 mile a day and increase to 2 miles in a ~ 4 wks p, as tolerated. Then start going to gym ~3-4/wk. ...Read more

Resting heart rate of 99bpm, after exercise, my heart rate is 120bpm but goes back to 99bpm. Ekg is normal. See cardiologist?

Heart rate: At your age a low heart rate of 99 is a little unusual. Your primary md could start your evaluation with an ekg. I would also consider a non cardiac cause such as hyperthyroidism or anemia. I would also think you can achieve a much higher rate than 120. You didn't mention how hard you were exercising. ...Read more

Doing good: Please do not obsess about heart rate and calories burnt. If you maintain a healthy weight and exercise 150 minutes/week you are doing great. Over exercising may not be a good idea. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. ...Read more

19 yr old female. Random heart palpitations. @ gym on low level elliptical 5 min: heart rate = 185, 14:40 min: heart rate = 194. Prickly skin. Why?

Normal: That's normal. The reason is: your exercise induces a large amount of endogenous catecholamine (adrenalin) which causes the heart to produce an occasional premature beat. This will be more frequent if you've been sweating as you lose potassium and magnesium through perspiration that must be replaced. Prickly skin is non-specific and and just an involuntary (autonomic) nervous system response. ...Read more

High (approx. 80 BPM) resting heart rate. Previously sedentary. My heart pounds hard and fast during T25 DVD workout - is actually feeling it normal?

Heart rate and exerc: Heart rate of 80 is still well within the normal range. If you have started an exercise program after being relatively sedentary - its not unusual that you might see an increase in pulse. As your body adjusts to the new exercise program and your cardiovascular health improves the pulse will lower. The pounding is simply your body letting you know its out of shape. Good luck ...Read more
