What are the symptoms of heart contusion?

What are the symptoms of heart contusion?

Depends on severity: There may be no symptoms while the ekg and blood samples have the appearance of an acute myocardial infarction (heart attack). Some people have chest pain that can mimic a heart attack or pleurisy. Arrhythmias/palpitations may occur. A severe contusion can cause a pericardial effusion with tamponade, leading to death if untreated. The symptoms are shortness of breath and low blood pressure. ...Read more

Atleast 3-4 times a week when I wake up my hearts racing at well over 100 bpm. What causes this?

Palpitations: You are having palpitations, which can be caused by many things, including thyroid issues, anxiety, arrhythmias, caffeine, hypoglycemia, among many other things. You need to be evaluated both with blood tests and possibly with a 24 hour monitor called a holter monitor to see what the heart is doing during these episodes from an electrical standpoint. ...Read more

How long does it take for a heart contusion to heal?

Check the lab values: Contusions of the heart itself, when related to trauma vary vastly in terms of severity. Contusions that are clinically important generally have laboratory and EKG signs of injury. The damage is no longer ongoing when lab values cease to keep trending up. The rate at which it takes to return to normal is not entirely clear. Note: this is not the same a fractured sternum.. ...Read more

Should I be under the care of a trauma surgeon or a cardiologist for my heart contusion from a car accident?

Should I be under the care of a trauma surgeon or a cardiologist for my heart contusion from a car accident?

Both: If you were involved in a car accident and suffered a cardiac contusion, a trauma surgeon is the best trained to rule out any further injury to other organ parts. A cardiologist should be involved to make sure you don't have any cardiac-related that needs further workup or followup. ...Read more

7 weeks after cardiac contusion, heart palpitates when i'm showering in hot water. I'm an avid walker, healthy weight, and heart is otherwise healthy.

Palpitations: You may have had some scar formation after the contusion which predisposes to palpitations. If your stress echo was normal, you likely don't have to be concerned unless the palpitations cause a lot of symptoms for you. In that case check with your dr. You should also make sure the 24hr holter didn't show anything untoward. ...Read more

I got punched in the chest during a boxing match and i still have intense pain been to ER twice and everything is normal, what about contusion of heart?

Wouldn't hurt: A cardiac contusion isn't painful but a fractured sternum is and i'll bet that's what you have - it just hasn't shown up on xray yet (it takes time ; a special xray technique to show it). I wish you well. ...Read more

I have a bad head contusion and I have a bad heart mtrovalve prolapse. Can i still exercise safely?

I have a bad head contusion and I have a bad heart mtrovalve prolapse. Can i still exercise safely?

However, this should be discussed with your doctor as there is high variability. A contusion is the medical term for a bruise. If all you have is a superficial bruise, this should not affect exercise. If you have a deeper injury, you may need to heal before returning. ...Read more
