Hear Heartbeat In Ear And Earache
Brief episodes of vertigo, ear fullness, ear ache, and pulsatile tinnitus in left ear for two months (started after a cold with bronchitis). Also, conductive hearing loss in left ear. Outer ear and tympanic membrane look fine. Neur. Exam. Fine.
Meniere's disease?: Are you having headaches as well? With vertigo, hearing loss and tinnitus (ringing in the ears perhaps??) you've described 3/4 symptoms of Ménière's disease, the only last symptom being headaches on the side of the hearing loss and ringing in the ear. You'd need an MRI to know that the inner ears and brain in general look OK. Treatment for this is challenging. ...Read more

37 female. Hearing heartbeat in ear. Seems to stop when I clench my jaw. Also have pain in tendons running from elbow to wrist, not sure associated?
Unrelated: These symptoms are unrelated. It is not uncommon to feel or hear the pulse in the ear, but if it is a very noticeable feeling, it's prudent to have your blood pressure checked to make sure it's not elevated. Your arm symptom is nonspecific but could be due to an inflamed tendon in the elbow. If you can take them, nsaids like Advil or Aleve (naproxen) may help. Otherwise see your physician for evaluation. ...Read more
My ears feel plugged and muffled and I am now extremely sensitive to sound. Hearing even footsteps hurts like crazy. Is this a normal earache?
No: An earache means your ear actually hurts. Does your ear hurt? Are you more sensitive to internal sounds such as that occurs when chewing or hearing your own footsteps rather than of others? If that is the case and your ear does not hurt, when considering your other symptoms, it sounds like you may have accumulated fluid behind your ear drum, what we call serous otitis media. ...Read more

Do I have a perforated ear drum? I have had chronic earaches since I was a kid. Lately I have noticed that I cannot hear well out of my left ear, and I do hear the ocean sound. I put some ear drops in (left over from my last doctor visit), but it hasn't
High: High pressures generated from a valsalva maneuver that you performed could generate the type of sound that you described if you had a perforation. Also, if you tasted your eardrops that could be an indirect sign of perforation as a pathway from your ear canal, through a perforation, down the eustacian tube, and into the back of your throat. If you haven't seen an ent, it may be wise to have this checked, get a hearing test, and discuss options for possible corrective surgery if you have a perforation, or other appropriate tympanomastoid surgery depending on the severity of the problem. ...Read more

Ear aches! I am hearing impaired and I get ear aches. Tonight I have an ear ache and its sharp pains what can I do to make it go away? I'm 26!
Tmj: You likely have tmj. A way to tell is to open and close the jaw with a finger placed in the TMJ socket which is roughly the pocket created when one opens the mouth and places a finger directly in front of the ear canal right at the level of the sideburns. Softer foods, warm compresses and Motrin should help. Avoid gum chewing. Other option is migraine. If you have drainage otitis externa - seemd. ...Read more

What: What you're describing sounds like eustachian tube dysfunction. If you get congested/sick/allergic/or are a smoker, your nose may not provide an open connection with the middle ear, so the pressure on either side of the eardrum can't equalize. That results in severe pressure that can decrease your hearing and cause pain. You should be evaluated by an ENT doctor, as most er doctors will erroneously prescribe you antibiotics. It would be helpful to have a specialist look (and test) that ear. ...Read more
