A healthy diet and exercise is crucial for the development of lean muscle mass as opposed to just packing on fat. Junk food without exercise is not a good way to gain weight. Eating high calorie, but protein and nutrient rich foods such as nut butters, cheese, avocados and nuts is a good way to start. She should talk to her doctor about a healthy diet and exercise plan to gain weight in the best way possible.

This could cause severe electrolyte abnormalities and eventual cardiac arrest if continued for prolonged periods of time (this is what happened to Karen Carpenter). 110 lbs for a 5'4" person is already at the low end of normal weight. Most 15 year olds need at least 1300 calories per day and usually closer to 1500 calories per day.
