Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

How high is your uterus at 32 weeks of pregnancy?

How high is your uterus at 32 weeks of pregnancy?

32 centimeters: The fundal height is measured from the top of the pubic bone to the top of the uterus. At about 20 weeks gestation the top of the uterus is typically 20 centimeters above the pubis - and from that time until about 34 weeks the uterus will grow at about one centimeter each week. By 32 weeks the uterus should measure about 32 centimeters above the pubis. ...Read more

Is it safe to have sex at 32 weeks of pregnancy? My previous child was born at 32 weeks. I'm currently taking progesterone shots weekly.

Is it safe to have sex at 32 weeks of pregnancy? My previous child was born at 32 weeks. I'm currently taking progesterone shots weekly.

Safe to have sex.: There should be no problem having sex at 32 weeks of pregnancy. It would probably be prudent not to try increased vigorous sex or unusual positions if you are not already used to it. Your previous delivery at 32 weeks has no effect on this pregnancy if all else is normal at this time. Good luck with the new family addition. ...Read more

17 weeks pregnant. Is 1 cup of coffee a week ok? Prior miscarriage in June. 35 years old. Healthy.

17 weeks pregnant. Is 1 cup of coffee a week ok? Prior miscarriage in June. 35 years old. Healthy.

Decaf O.K.: Decaffeinated coffee is best as the caffeine in coffee can speed up the fetus' heart rate which is already 120 to 160 beats/minute normally. Faster fetal heart rates can actually cause cardiac arrests just like in adults. ...Read more

Hcg beta at 14dpo=70 16dpo=106. Doubling time= 80 hours. What are chances of miscarriage? Slow x2 time happened to me in last (healthy) pregnancy too.

May be normal: You cannot predict anything from these data. Do not take the "doubling time" too literally, there is some variability and 166% increase in 48 hours is still within normal many times. Good wishes. ...Read more

9weeks pregnant ultrasound shows twins. One baby healthy with heartbeat. Other baby stopped growing at 7weeks. Is this dangerous for the healthy baby?

If my wife conceives at age 34 and gives birth at age 35, then is that considered an at-risk pregnancy?

If my wife conceives at age 34 and gives birth at age 35, then is that considered an at-risk pregnancy?

Loose term: The words "high risk" are imprecise and just suggest higher statistical risk of some negative outcome.Any pregnancy has about 4% risk of a surprise outcome. A woman's risk of a down syndrome birth increases every year after the early 20's ; at 40 it hits an added 1%.Any health issue or pregnancy complication can be used to designate someone high risk. The term just reminds the staff to be on alert. ...Read more

Can implantation occur a little less than 48 hours after sex? Positive pregnancy test less than 48 hrs after intercourse as well.

Can implantation occur a little less than 48 hours after sex? Positive pregnancy test less than 48 hrs after intercourse as well.

Anatomy : Nope. Absolutely not. First: the sperm have to swim through the cervix, through the uterus, out the fallopian tube and find an ovulated egg. This takes more than 48 hours. Second an impregnated egg does not have any connection to the mothers body for over one week after impregnation and even then does not produce enough hormone for the mother's blood to be carrying it. It is impossible to test. ...Read more
