What should the average cholesterol level be for a person to be considered healthy?

But, the general well known cutoff for normal for this one part of the cholesterol panel is 200 mg/dl or lower. ...Read more

Good Fat is good: It's only bad fat, like transfats, that are bad. Good fat like oilve oil and coconut oil is good for us. The low fat diet is not healthy. About 20% of your lab values for cholesterol come from diet, the rest from our body. Being a fat head can be good. Peace and good health. ...Read more

Does ghee helps in lowering the cholesterol levels? Is it healthy?

Absolutely not: ghee or clarified butter isn't good for you at all. It is a fat that is solid at room temperature and as such high in saturated fats. Saturated fats and all data solid at room temp is to be avoided and especially in South Asians who are at heightened risk for coronary artery disease. South Asians are "CAD equivalent". Pls check your fasting lipids and change your lifestyle as needed. ...Read more

The best..: ..Is a total cholesterol less than 120. In general, the higher your HDL (good cholesterol) and the lower your LDL (bad cholesterol) the better. Up to 160-180 is still alright, but the LDL needs to stay less than 100. Over 200 is high. ...Read more

Don't worry: There is a "pop" / government claim that the primary prevention of atherosclerosis must begin in early childhood with diet, simply because of the existence of fatty streaks -- tiny spots in arteries superficially resembling real disease and seen in all youngsters. Most of my fellow-pathologists discount this and believe these lesions are inconsequential. Adopt a fitness lifestyle now & it's moot. ...Read more
