What is the safe maximum heart rate during exercise for a 58 year old woman with BMI 36.8?

What is the safe maximum heart rate during exercise for a 58 year old woman with BMI 36.8?

Interesting question: In theory 220- age is maximum heart rate, but I have seen some people exceed this formula, the real question is target heart rate- probably 60-70% of this according to exercise physiology - about 112 for you. If you run a bit higher comfortably, don't worry. As you excercise more your heart rate may drop as you get more fit. Still, you don't have to go that hard to get benefits. Be well! ...Read more

Is there a healthy amount of calories a 5ft 3" 18 y/o year old with a BMI of 26 should burn everyday?

Nature of food: If you stick to god made food, you do not have to worry about energy. Eat to the point where you are satisfied and no longer hungry. An excess of calories is bad. Avoid all the "junk" that is so common, especially all the sweet stuff. ...Read more

My EKG showed low voltage in the limb leads. My doctor wasnt concerned. Im 38 year old female BMI 19.5 I had a previousnormal EKG should I be worrie?

NO: Low voltage on an EKG usually is caused by placement of the leads. This usually does happen from the limb leads because they are placed farther than the precordial leads. Also, they can be placed at different locations. For example more toward your ankle on one EKG versus closer or at your knee on another. ...Read more

I am a 16 year old female. I am very active and i want to calculate my BMI but for a highly active teenager. Height: 5.6" weight: 155 age: 16 years ol?

Fair: Your bmi is 25 kg/m2 and considered slightly overweight. However it is more important to measure the waist line size which should be much less than 35 inch in a female of your age. Do note that if you are somewhat muscular, the bmi may well be normal. ...Read more

Question?: I don't see your question, but if your weight has been stable, and you feel well, there is no need to try to make your weight increase, just for the sake of seeing a higher number on a scale. You appear to be blessed with a great metabolism. ...Read more

20 year old female BMI 21, did GTT and it reached 305 in minute 70 and 280 in minute 90, no family history of DM, should I be worried?

Abnormal OGTT: Hi. Those results are abnormal, although there are no standard diagnostic criteria for 70 and 90 minutes. I trust they did a 120 minute for which there ARE diagnostic criteria. You're young, thin, & have no family history of type 2. You're probably in the process of developing type 1. What symptoms led your doc to do the OGTT? Have you lost weight? Are you peeing all night long? Follow up with doc ...Read more

I am an 18-year-old female but my blood pressure is always 92/57-60. My BMI is 24.2. It is naturally occurring (no meds). Is it dangerous?

Low BP?: 18 F BMI 24.2 worries about BP 92/57. No worries. In general the lower your BP and BMI the longer you will live and the less time you will spend during your later years living with the consequences of higher BP: stroke, heart attach, heart failure, kidney failure and aortic aneurysm. Keep up the good work The only low BP to worry about is if you faint when it gets low for you. ...Read more

With a consistent resting heart rate of 85 what would you expect a brisk walk to the shops heart rate to be? 23 year old female w/ slightly high BMI.

With a consistent resting heart rate of 85 what would you expect a brisk walk to the shops heart rate to be? 23 year old female w/ slightly high BMI.

100-120: Your resting heart rate over 80 indicates a lack of physical fitness, assuming your thyroid and medical condition to be otherwise normal. I would guess that a brisk walk would increase your heart rate modestly since you are not obese. At your age, you ought to be doing more vigorous exercise to get your heart rate above 140 for about 20 minutes a day for optimal health and fitness. ...Read more

Are there any recommended weight loss pills? I am a fairly active 20 year old female, with a BMI of about 24. I have been doing a workout regime for a couple of months now combining weight lifting and cardio. I eat a well balanced diet, mostly vegetarian

Given : Given you age and bmi, i suggest that you can better manage your weight through careful diet and activity. Currently, there are only limited options for an oral weight loss medication and all have their limitations and side-effects. Phentermine is an amphetamine has been approved by the fda and has been used for many years as a weight loss formula. It is used for a limited period of time to speed weight loss in overweight people who are exercising and eating a low-calorie diet and belongs to a class of medications called anorectics. A combination of Phentermine and topiramate (brand name topamax®) or also known as qnexa is under consideration by the fda for approval in 2012. Bontril is another amphetamine-related weight-loss drug, but like any amphetamine, are potentially addictive. Empatic is a combination drug consisting of two already fda approved medications, zonisamide and bupropion, for seizures and antidepressant, respectively - the combination is being tested for weight loss. Some appetite suppressant drugs such as Fenfluramine (also known as fen phen), chlorphentermine, and aminorex induced a heart valve abnormalities as well as pulmonary hypertension. These drugs were eventually withdrawn from the market. Lorcaserin, a selective 5-ht(2c) receptor agonist, produced modest weight loss but was not initially approved by the fda - resubmission is being consider in 2012. The monoaminergic re-uptake inhibitor tesofensine has also been shown to produce impressive weight loss in smaller-scale clinical studies and future tests are planned. The ads you see on the internet are for non-proven weight loss treatments. ...Read more

Chest pain: It sounds like it may be musculoskeletal but always good to ensure. Ice packs and moist heat will definitely help me move in the right direction with gentle stretching and massaging. This type of pain can be very painful so an Ibuprofen may help to. Make sure you take deep breaths or else you may be at risk for a lung infection from taking shallow breaths. ...Read more
