Hi my blood tests results are
basophils absolute 150 h normal range 0-120
.lymphocytes absolute 4390 h reference range 1000-3850
, monotype absolute?
That's fine: Reference ranges are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside on either on either end. Your lymphocytes and basophils were on extra patrol that day. Relax and be glad they're working for you ...Read more
Follow up: My own MCV runs a bit low perhaps because i may carry a alpha-thal gene or two. If your daughter is borderline iron-deficient or has beta-thal minor (the two most likely possibilities), her pediatrician can tell you; both are worth knowing. I would draw no conclusion from a high monocyte absolute count or percentage. Thanks for asking. ...Read more

Normal but: These are normal but you don't mention your total white blood cell count which is crucial for assessing if you have an infection. Moreover, the hemoglobin is only 1 of many parameters necessary to assess shortness of breath .What is your oxygen saturation at rest and after a 6 minute walk? Chest x-ray? Yes: The more important number is what is called the absolute monocyte count, which is derived by multiplying your WBC count by the percentage of monocytes (i.e. In your case 3.68 times 20% which equals about 0.73). Your absolute monocyte count is normal. When greater than 1.5, it could represent a problem. ...Read more
What does elevated mchc 35.3 elevated lymphocytes abs 5.56 and lymphocytes percent 54.00 with low neutrophil percent 35.7 mean?
Blood results for healthy adult shows all within range except: Hemoglobin 13.1 (low): 13.2-17.1 in range; Hemacrit 37.9 & 38.5-50% in range. Go to ER?
Of course not...: Unless one is having an emergency, one should not think of an E.R. Lab result numbers are just numbers, with little meaning if one does not have the whole picture. "In range" or "out of range" also mean little without the big picture. For example, if one is feeling fine and always has a hemoglobin of 13, that's great. If one usually has 16, but now has 13 after bleeding for 3 hours, that's bad. ...Read more

Individual Normals: Individuals tend to be consistent for many such variables over time, though disease or other change in health can alter them. normal ranges are designed to include only 95% of people who are healthy. Being consistently on the low end or even just below the range. While some "normal" values may indeed indicate disease for that person, it is more common for normal people to fall just outside normal. ...Read more
More or less: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. My 8 year old son has low neutrophils (1.70 K/microL) and low lymphocytes (1.3 K/microL) overall WBC is 3.6. What could this mean?
May need a workup: These are both just a little bit low for his age. Reference ranges are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside on either side. I'm assuming he feels well and all the formed elements of the blood appear normal. He's in no danger now, and I suspect he'll simply be followed. ...Read more
