How could our healthcare be this bad?

How could our healthcare be this bad?

Long list: We have mixed incentives and mixed punishments. Money is a major driver and allows insurance companies and pharm companies to control much of healthcare. We have a herd of malpractice attorneys driving up costs. Rewards are skewed and are always for good care but for efficiency meaning generating the most cash for the least time. We also have a mixed population with many delaying care. ...Read more

What's the status of rural healthcare?

What's the status of rural healthcare?

Limited: Doctors less and less are moving to rural areas due to the incredible debt they get from medical scvhool. Rural health care is more, and more from physician extenders like nurse practitioners and physician assistants. There is also less funding for rural hospitals and rural public health. So the status is getting less favorable. ...Read more

Why is obama's healthcare system broken?

It's not Obama's: America is the most short-sighted country on the globe. Our presidents have actively tried to change the system going back to truman. I led town hall meetings/discussion panels before last election. Obama had the right ideas to make real change, but one by one the teeth were removed, 1st by insurance lobby, then by pharmaceutical lobby, using senators lieberman & snow, and others. Sick society. ...Read more

Can american healthcare improve under romney?

It could if.....: If romney became pres and pursued what started under his governorship in mass--despite distancing himself from it, to fit the republican agenda--then he could help. Mass is a first step. The second: developing a primary care team system that functions on its own, that covers all. Pcps there are burned out, retired, died, left state, or closed their panel. Ma model can work--keep going! ...Read more

Could you give me an example of holistic healthcare?

Could you give me an example of holistic healthcare?

Theory vs. Practice?: In theory, wholistic takes into account that health/disease is beyond body issues. As embodied souls connected to a mind, complex+fragile brain controlling a complex+fragile body with millions of orders/sec, issues of health/disease are integrated at all levels, not just body ; not just reactions to body issues/handicaps/pain. Unfortunately, in my experience, most offered is low quality/simplistic. ...Read more

What does the future of global healthcare look like?

Globe-good, USA-not: Us spends close to 18% of it's entire gross domestic product on healthcare related stuff, and is 27th in any measurement of happiness as a society. The cost to the next most expensive is half of the us, and a lot happier people. The tsunami is not going to suddenly change directions. It'll take a bigger tsunami to do that. Can you tell me if the rich owe the poor healthcare?

Health responsible: This is a complicated question. It has layers, like an onion, or an ogre. The "rich" do pay more in taxes, and some portion of those taxes does support healthcare expenditures. However, and i'm not at all a fan of obamacare, but, if the "poor" were to eat better, exercise more, take better care of their bodies, and do preventative medicine, the cost of healthcare would be much less. ...Read more

So skeptical anyone can fix us healthcare mess. Am I alone?

We need Obamacare!: For far too long, everybody has been doing their own thing and no one has been looking at the overall picture.
