Neck u/s done 4 globus sensation showed borderline enlarged thyroid, suggests underlying thyroiditis. Is it cause of globus? Is serious? Labs normal

Test results: An important part of tests (ultra-sound, etc) is understandable feedback and recommendations - incl "Don't worry". Ask about anything you'd worry about otherwise. Normal labs are good and suggest it's not serious but thyroiditis might call for check-ups from time to time. Ask. Best! ...Read more

In hashimoto thyroiditis why is there an initial increase in thyroid levels?

In hashimoto thyroiditis why is there an initial increase in thyroid levels?

Mechanism: The thyroid has 2 months of thyroid hormones stored inside it. When it gets inflamed (thyroidtis), it can't hold on to the thyroid hormones and the hormones leak out into the blood stream. That's why you have high level at the beginning. Once all the hormone is leaked out, there is no hormones left and the body has to make the hormone again which is why you become low. ...Read more

Had 7mm thyroid nodule that went away in a month. Also found to have thyroiditis.Dr said thyroiditis can cause thyroid to look like it has a nodule?

Correct: Your doctor is right. Ultrasound picks up the most tiny of abberations, and a 7 mm nodule may well be of no consequence, or be part of the heterogeneity of hashimotos thyroiditis or scarring left over from subacute thyroiditis. A cancerous nodule would not "go away" so you don't need to worry. ...Read more

I have acute thyroiditis , all thyroid levels&blood tests are perfect. However I have some pain in my right and left sides und my ribs, is this related?

No: I am going to assume that your thyrioditis is de quervain's subacute granulomatous thyroiditis. This almost always goes away without causing much trouble. Rib pain's a different story, and if it is in the center of your chest, is crushing, prevents you from sleeping or doing the other things you enjoy, or takes your breath away, a phyiscian's office visit is in order. ...Read more

Does hashimoto's thyroiditis increase your risk for thyroid cancer?

A little: Is an association between hashimotos and thyroid lymphoma. If you had thyroidectomy, for other reasons, you don't need to worry about developing that. If not, intermittent neck ultrasounds can be a useful screening test. ...Read more
