Health Effects From Hookah Teen Smoking
I don't want to cough after smoking hookah but will i if it's the first time? And any health benefits/risks of doing hookah?
What do you suggest if I have been smoking a vaporizer for a while and hookah pens that have no nicotine but are they bad for my health?
Nobody knows: There have been no studies of even short-term use, and nobody knows what is in the oils and their flavorings and what they do. Oil in general ain't great for lungs, and the vehicle used in these vaporizers is propylene glycol, and nobody knows what his does when inhaled either. While it is likely that vaping will not be as bad as smoking tobacco, nobody can say that yet with certainty. ...Read more
If it is not: Tobacco, it depends upon what is being burned and what is inhaled. The hookah passes the substasnce through water, and could abstract aqueous soluble products, but not lipophilic ones. One needs to read the label of active ingredients. If you don't know; don't do it. ...Read more
Lots of mixed answers on smoking affects on teen growth, can someone put an end for it and tell me for sure if the growth stunted bc of the hookah?
Smoking what?: If it is tobacco, then smoking it through a hookah is no different than smoking it in any other kind of pipe, or in cigarettes - the water may cool the smoke, but it doesn't filter out any nicotine or tars. Tobacco impairs growth in teens. Your profile says you are 23, so you are likely not going to grow any further. If you smoked as a teenager and have short stature compared to family, then yes. ...Read more
Can hookah smoking daily between ages 16-18 stunt teen growth? I'm really frustrated and quit it already.
Not sure.: Most males stop growing taller by around age 18. The natural history of nicotine dependence in teens study (funded by canadian cancer society) published in journal annals of epidemiology (17 march 2008) showed that on average, teenage boys who smoked were 2.54 cm shorter than their non-smoking counterparts. I have not reviewed study – so i can’t comment on quality of research. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I'm beating myself up everyday about my daily hookah smoking at my teen years, i'm pretty sure it stunted my growth, how can I be sure? I'm frustrated
Assume you're right: Assume you are right. Since there is no way to be sure, accept that it might have and be done with it.Nothing you do or say at this time will change that outcome. You could use opportunity to stop smoking, which will help you in the long run. If you plan to dwell on the issue, it shows a level of obsession that suggests you should seek out counseling. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Is growing of teen body stunted by smoking hookah/waterpipe everyday? Some tell me that there's a possibility of that. Is it true or just a tail?
Yes, it does: Tobacco effects bone growth, and impairs healing. There is evidence that kids who smoke do not achieve their maximum height as much as siblings who do not start smoking. That is the least of what smoking does - various cancers, esp lung and mouth/throat, bronchitis and emphysema, premature heart disease with heart attack and stroke, and many many other illnesses. Hookahs do not protect from harm. ...Read more

Definitely Not: Tobacco kills more people than all other drugs combined, over 400k a year in the us. Alcohol kills 125k & all other drugs (street drugs and prescription drugs) only account for 10k deaths a year. So it is exactly opposite of what most people think, which is often "drugs are really bad, alcohol is not good for you but not 'so bad, ' and 'one of these days i'll get around to quitting smoking.'". ...Read more

Hard to say: There have been a number of recent reviews of potential effects from the higher levels of cannabidiol (not THC) in hemp oils, and how they might have anti-tumor effects, anti-convulsant effects particularly in some refractory childhood forms of epilepsy, as well as effects for treatment of neuropathic pain and muscle spasm.
