Just saw that 1/88 us kids has autism. I don't believe that. Is someone making money off the diagnosis or treatment?
As a matter of fact,: Not in the mainstream community, no. Developmental/behavioral pediatrics is a cognitive subspecialty &, therefore, labor-intensive, as are neuropsychology, psychology, psychiatry, & behavioral therapy. We are not well-paid by insurance companies for our time. If we had a brain-o-scope & could do a 12-minute procedure, it'd be a different story. The diagnosis has broadened but is still valid. ...Read more
Are you kidding?: It sounds preposterous. Autistic patients are highly rigid & anxious. If a mother has autism, will her baby have autism too? I heard a cause of autism is through genetics, so I'm just wondering?
Not always: There are some specific genetic abn that can be identified and are often transmitted from parent to child. Most often the genetic underpinning is complex and only has a possible 50% chance of being transmitted directly. Though autism has some genetic basis, it is far from being inherited directly, there are also many environmental factors. A parent with autism is likely to have kids with some issue. ...Read more

No.: No evidence at all for mmr, or any vaccine, being causative for autism. And, plenty of evidence to the contrary. Of rare families with >1 affected child, this appears to be the case. Newly affected families have little if any chance of replicating that event, or sharing it across family lines. ...Read more
