I have a hard time hearing with background noises. Do hearing aids help when there is background noise?

I have a hard time hearing with background noises. Do hearing aids help when there is background noise?

Yes they can: In most cases, they will help alot. It depends on the type of hearing loss you have. Go to an ENT doctor for an exam and hearing evaluation. They can, based on the test, make a recommendation about hearing aids. You get a 30 day trial period with hearing aids so you can then judge for yourself if they help enough to warrant the expense. ...Read more

Listening to music with headphones while havin a bit impacted earwax is that any risk of dangerous or tinnitus?

No risk of tinnitus: using headphones with or without earwax is not dangerous, and will not cause tinnitus. The risk from headphones is hearing loss (if used for long periods at high volume), and impacted earwax might actually protect the ear from such damage. Tinnitus is not completely understood, and probably occurs as the result of various causes. ...Read more

My two ears are ringing after listening to very loud music with headphones. Any way to stop it?

Possibly: If the volume is too loud with head phones or ear buds like an ipod etc. Then you can very definitely damage your hearing esp. High frequency. The volume should never be so loud that it causes you to not hear someone trying to talk to you or that causes ringing in ears immediately afterwards. Rock concerts can be esp. Bad for this - wearing ear plugs is probably the best way to prevent damage here. ...Read more

The : The causes of tinnitus are many, and the treatment needs to be individualized, you likely have some noise induced hearing loss with tinnitus, and this may respond to medications like Neurontin (gabapentin) or a benzodiazepine. Other techniques like tinnitus retraining therapy may help where an audiologist finds the frequency of your noise and tries to eliminate it. An excellent website for sufferers of tinnitus is from the american tinnitus association http://www.Ata.Org/for-patients/tips the techniques listed by the other doctors are correct that tinnitus is worse when the ambient noise level is low and playing background music or white noise may make it less noticeable, but each case may have a unique cause and the more you can describe when it occurs and relate it to things like blood pressure or exercise or straining, the more likely the doctor will be able to make it better. Finally since your tinnitus is unilateral, an MRI of your brain and iac is indicated to rule out a mass in the nerve of hearing. Good luck. ...Read more

What's the medical reason that explains when someone is hard of hearing one should speak deeper not louder?

Loss of high pitch: There are tiny hairs, of increasing length, in your inner ear, that act similar to strings on a harp. Higher pitched sounds will trigger the shorter hairs, and lower pitched, the longer. There can be a loss of the higher pitched hearing, from high-volume hearing damage. It's normal for hearing quality to gradually worsen, becoming most noticeable in the elderly. See your doctor for evaluation. ...Read more

Is it possible to still have hearing loss even if you test as borderline in a hearing test? I have a really hard time hearing people talk.

Sure thing: This is simply an example of how your knowledge of what's wrong with your body is more accurate than a machine's. The only problem with YOU is your inability to give your doctor a READOUT or show him a meter with an actual number. Therefore, the only he can document that is concrete is what the machine detects. Come back in 6 months and the machine will likely "hear you" more clearly. ...Read more

What could body numbness, passing out, head hurting, shaking, hard of hearing and very emotional be caused by? it started after meds for poison ivy

Med side effects: Steroid pills are often prescribed for allergic reactions such as poison ivy, since they can quiet the itching and the rash fairly effectively. Some people, however, have very intrusive side effects from such pills, as if they have too much adrenaline in their body. Such people are better off avoiding oral steroids, since poison ivy symptoms can be managed with other options. ...Read more
