If no cause found, rx. ...Read more

Worry? No-Treat? Yes: Headaches waking you up persistently at night may be any number of things from tension type to migraine and there are others. Your use of the words "many years" suggests that these are likely benign (though i'm certain painful and perhaps even debilitating). Therefore, should you be worried? I would say likely not...But i suggest a good headache specialist to get you treated on back to yourself. ...Read more

Nonspecific: Your symptoms are nondiagnostic but could be due to inadequate sleep, depression, chronic stress and anxiety, anemia, low blood pressure, underactive thyroid, etc. I recommend seeing your physician who will take a thorough history and perform a complete physical examinition and then order appropriate tests in order to make a diagnos is, prescribe treatment and suggest any needed referrals. ...Read more

I run cool mist humidifier and air purifier at night but i wake up every morning with a headache. Do you have any ideas why? Thank you

As an allergist,: I cringe a little when I hear about humidifiers because they are ripe for biofilms (colonization by bacteria and fungi). If it helps you, please clean it thoroughly and regularly with bleach. Sensitivities to fungus can be a cause of chronic rhinitis and it may be your trigger. Other benign causes of morning headaches include snoring/sleep apnea, migraine, grinding teeth/TMJ pain, poor sleep etc ...Read more

My anus has been extremely itchy especially at night the last few days. Every morning I wake up with a terrible headache and stiff neck. What could this mean? Infection?

Pinworms?: One of the most common causes of nighttime anal itching is an intestinal parasite called pinworms but diagnosis requires evidence of their presence. The treatment is a prescription medication like albendazole. I can't think of any way this could be connected to your headache & stiff neck. So, in any case, you need to see a doctor. ...Read more
