Why do I get a huge headache when I stand up? I have tried getting up much slower in stages but nothing works. Can last 10mins-1hr sometimes more.
Headache w standing: A headache that occurs with standing but improves with lying down may be related to intracranial hypotension, which is caused by a CSF leak. Since Xmas day headache when I stand up I feel like I've been on a spinning chair really giddy tired all the time my eyes are burning and have been sick and some time when I speak can't get my words out or forget things for got the cats name this morning?
I don't like it.: I wasn't that worried until you started describing the forgetfulness and trouble producing words in speech. This, along with the spinning feeling and headache, could be describing a brain event, such as a hypertensive-type stroke or hemorrhage. You need to be seen in an Emergency Department immediately. See answer: Although several types of headaches are more common in the morning, "awakening headaches" suggest a sleep disorder may be the cause. Sleep apnea can cause this type of headache. Insomnia can also cause this. Dark vision on standing is due to transient low blood pressure(orthostatic hypotension).
