A headache that feels like brain freeze. What should I do?

A headache that feels like brain freeze. What should I do?

Avoid certain acts: Symptoms of "brain freeze" can occur after eating ice cream or other cold foods. It probably relates to stimulating the trigeminal nerve which controls sensation in the face and large areas of the head. Avoiding the activities that bring on the symptoms is probably the best bet.

Probably migraine: Frequently brain freeze occurs in migraine patients, and sometimes the migraines themselves give this feeling. If you have been getting headaches for a while, this is almost certainly the cause, particularly if otherwise normal. You may have some medication overuse/rebound headache as well from taking many otc pain meds. A headache neurologist should be able to help you with the appropriate meds. ...Read more

Hello, I've got a constant very mild headache almost behind the eyes which feels like brain freeze.

Brain Freeze, too: Brain freeze from ingesting ice cold foods is common & multifactorial, as are headaches. Such pain can originate from the skin, fat, muscle, blood vessels or within the cranium from great venous sinuses, their tributaries, the dura and its arteries, the falx cerebri, & the large arteries at the base of the brain (all of which have pain fibers). Also, migraines can trigger from alcohol and foods. ...Read more

Try taking naprosyn (naproxen): You should see your doctor to find the cause of your headaches and to give you the right medication. A neurologist is a specialist who typically handles severe and persistent headaches. Until you see the doctor try using combinations of two medicines together. Chosing from tylenol, (acetaminophen) asspirin or naprosyn along with caffeine. ...Read more

I've never been one to get headaches, but for the last day and a half it feels like a brain freeze that won't stop. What could it be?

You need to be seen: This sounds like it could be a migraine headache but without more information and a thorough exam, there is no way to tell. You should be seen by a physician to make sure this is not something more serious and to prescribe appropriate treatment.
It is especially important if you have never had a headache like this before. ...Read more

What causes an brain freeze like headache by just standing up?

Hmmm: I don't know of any good or standard answer for that question. It's interesting. The process of standing up will affect your labyrinthine system of your ears, your autonomic system (blood pressure), and other mechanical systems related to the act of standing up. See if you can break down the movement into components (e.g. head upright without body, check BP on standing). Provide findings to MD ...Read more

I done the asl challenge tis morning since I have done it I have a really bad headache like brain freeze I am on antibotics for cold?

Ice bucket challenge: Thanks for doing the ALS ice bucket challenge. Sometimes cold water or ice cream causes vasoconstriction which is painful, and this may cause headaches.

Sorry to hear that! Make sure you keep yourself warm and dry. Make sure you take enough fluids. This will keep the blood vessel wide open. A little ibuprofen or acetaminophen may help. ...Read more

More info: Do you also get them on just one side of the head and/or behind or above the eye, nasal congestion or stuffy nose or eye tearing? Or do you feel like you are very restless during the pain? That would be reminiscent of a cluster headache. Or possibly a primary stabbing headache. I would strongly suggest talking to your doctor about this for proper diagnosis and treatment. Friend drank an icee a few days ago and had kidney pain that felt like a brain freeze. She's still in pain and now has headaches. Is she ok?

What is brain freeze: Brain Freeze is not a medical term or any that I am familiar with. Kidney pain is in the lower back.

Sometimes when you drink a very cold drink it will cause headache pain but it is short lived. If your friend has persistent headaches it is not from the drink.

She should go see a doctor for a full evaluation. ...Read more

I have been lightheaded for about a wk w/a weird brain freeze-like headache on&off. Today I have pressure in my forehead. I flew the day it started?

The change: In cabin pressure especially on longer flights can cause a number of "disquieting" symptoms following the flight including some microscopic "leakage" of cochlear fluid (causing vertigo, light headedness etc") sinus pressure alterations (frontal sinuses=forehead pressure) especially if you had a mild cold, or allergic congestion)
Hope this is helpful

Why would I have a brain freeze type pain in my head? Is it more likely sinuses, headache, or my trigeminal nerve?
