The list includes infection (both viral, bacterial), inflammatory disease such as rheumatoid arthritis, allergy (such as hives), drug rash (such as amoxicillin), contact dermatitis such as poison ivy, skin disease such as eczema, etc. The treatment differs. ...Read more

If well, wait: If the child is otherwise well, has not been on medication, is eating and drinking and playing, wait. It most likely is a viral exanthem (rash). Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is useless against viral rashes or viral infections. Is the child itchy or showing signs of an allergic reaction? Those would be uses for Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or other antihistamine. ...Read more

Am using bactroban (mupirocin) for skin rashes from which some fluid comes after a cut on toe. Was wondering if I put neosporin powder over bactroban (mupirocin) will it harm?

1) there is no : Point in doing that.
2) I would recommend you see a doctor. It sounds like you are self doctoring. The reason is it sounds like you have an infection and then you say a rash. So there may be two problems. If your not getting better with the bactroban (mupirocin) you may need an oral antibiotic. ...Read more

She has a rash that has went from head to toe and a Medrol (methylprednisolone) pack hasn't helped. Stress makes it worse nothing else or time of day. Not in private area.

Rash: If the rash is extremely itchy it sounds like a stress related pomphoylyx dermatitis.
It may also a medication you are allergic to. If Medrol (methylprednisolone) did not help try drinking Tonic water. It has quinine which is a component of a drug called Plaquinol which helps with autoimmune rashes.

Do I have prickly heat rash? I did hot yoga yesterday and now I am covered head to toe with tiny flat red bumps. They're especially bad on my glutes & quads. They itch, and I don't feel particularly good. They're not raised or full of pus

Heat : Heat rash (miliaria rubra) occurs when your sweat glands become blocked and sweat is trapped under the skin. This can cause a red rash that can either look like little blisters or larger red lumps. It can be itchy or "prickly" which is why many people refer to it as prickly heat. Even though it can be annoying, the good news is that it usually resolves on its own. You can help by preventing sweating such as staying in a cool environment, wear lightweight clothing of breathable material (like cotton), and limiting physical activity in the heat. Calamine lotion can help with the itch. Good luck! ...Read more

Yes safe, but: What are we treating? Is it contact allergy, then antihistamines won't help much, or is it a generalized reaction not related to a contactant? At any rate, follow the dermatologist advice until you see an allergist, good luck ...Read more
