What is the normal head circumference for a 4years old microcephaly?

What is the normal head circumference for a 4years old microcephaly?

Good question : I am not sure if there is a special chart for the microcephalics, his development may have been charted before overtime and compared to normal curves, development is a complex process, and not measured only by the head circumference, other aspects of the original disease and development interact, check this link too: http://www.who.int/childgrowth/standards/second_set/cht_hcfa_boys_p_0_5.pdf ...Read more

What is the average head circumference for a 6 year old girl?

Head circumference: Head sizes are relatively larger in small children. What is the average head circumference for a 6 month old girl?

What is the average head circumference for a 6 month old girl?

It is just a number: Around 42 cm (16-17 in). The number is somewhat meaningless from a medical standpoint... sort of like hair color. If one asks, "What is the average hair color of a 6 year-old girl", the answer is a meaningless color. Head circumference percentiles are compared to the percentiles of the parent's head sizes. Thus, if the parents have smaller heads, we don't worry about their babies' smaller heads. ...Read more

Hi my 9 week old sons head circumference measures 16 inches he weighs 11pounds 8ounces, is that in the normal range for head measurement.

Hi my 9 week old sons head circumference measures 16 inches he weighs 11pounds 8ounces, is that in the normal range for head measurement.

Head circumference: A head circumference of 16 inches at 9 weeks places him at the 95% for his age and sex. This is considered normal. I don't have a height, but his weight is about the 85%, so it seems from that he is generally a big boy. The more important factor, however, is interval growth from visit to visit. If he's always been at the 25% and suddenly is at 95%, that's more concerning than if he is always 95%. ...Read more

Probably fine: It's fine for an infant to have a large head, as long as it stays at a fairly constant percentile. It's only when heads grow or shrink too quickly that the child should be evaluated further. Make sure to talk with ur baby's pediatrician if u r concerned. ...Read more

Our grandchildren's pediatricians always say what "percentile" they are in weight, length, head circumference. How important is this info?

Screening test: Most adults get used to screening lab to "check out the system" as part of a visit. For kids, we have growth and physical development that provides us with the same kind of information.I can anticipate where on a growth chart a kid should be from the size of their parents. Then, as long as the kid stays within expected percentiles for growth and development, I have good evidence for good health. ...Read more

What does 90% percentile in infant head circumference mean?

Relative study: His rating means that 10% of infants at this age have a larger head circumference (size) while 90% are smaller. If the size has increased from 25-50-75-90% over several months it would suggest growth was too rapid. If usually in that range, it just means the kid has a big head.It hasn't bothered me any, except for having trouble finding a helmet/hat that would fit.. ...Read more

9.7 mnth old has a head circum. of 44cm,47.3% range on growth chart. Is this normal? She babbles, crawls, pulls self up.Not much change from 6mnth appt.

Missing information: Head circumference is normal, near average, but we need the velocity of its growth. Head growth slows normally after 6 mos., but should plot along or near the same growth curve it's always followed. Strings of babbling at 6 mos. become non-specific " da-da, ma-ma" in 9th mo. Gross motor is good. Screens are on firstsigns.org. Follow-up with pede. & MS Early Intervention Program if concerned. ...Read more

10 week old baby length and weight both 85th percentile. Head circumference 95th percentile. Does this mean he has a big head in proportion to body?

Not really: I don't consider that difference worth anything more than noting. Big babies are big all over and this falls within the normal variation of such measurements. If the kid was 50% weight/length and 95% head, I would just measure the parents head to see where baby inherited it from. There are other issues to consider with a big head, but not from the reported info. ...Read more

My baby is in 75% percentile height and 25percentile weight.6 month old boy.17 lb at and 27.5 inch height.is it normal?

Tough word - normal: Being thin and tall is perfectly fine if the child is growing along their growth curves normally. Make sure your pediatrician or FP doctor is measuring height and weight and plotting them on a growth curve. If the baby odd changing percentiles over time, you may need to intervene with nutritional or medical help. Check with your doctor on this ! ...Read more

My 4 month olds head circumference went from 70th percentile to 89th percentile in one month. Should I be worried?

Should i be worry if the head circumference percentile always stay flat? For example, 50% at 1 month and 50% at two months?

No Worry: The "percentile" for head circumference is a reflection of your child's head circumference comparred to others, and it is best if the "percentile" does not change greatly. 50% at 1 mo and 2 mo means your child's rate of head growth is perfectly fine. Concern only when head circumference increases/decreases by more than 2 standard deviations. Example: 50% at 1 mo, then 95% at 6 mos. ...Read more

Get the parents HCs: If the baby is doing well, and has no other signs or symptoms, then I would visit his Paediatrician and get his growth charted. if his head size appears larger , I would first measure the HCs of the parents as well. usually one or both parents also may have large heads. If so then not much to worry. Regardless, the infant should be monitored regularly by measurements and examinations. ...Read more
