Real: This is a very pricey mix of things; psyllium will bulk your stools and senna is a laxative. Claims for acai haven't stood up to examination and i doubt that mango is a real appetite suppressant. But the first two will make your gut feel different and give you the idea you've eaten something magic -- the principle of the "active placebo." it's your money. ...Read more

Nortriptyline safe? Doc said will help headaches. I looked up side effects. Fast heart rate. Low blood pressure. Hepatitis. These common side effects?
Yes, It is safe: As long as the dose is started low and gradually increased until you have pain control, there should be no problem with lightheadedness or dizziness. It is a safe medication and in fact was the most commonly prescribed antidepressant up until about 1985. I have treated hundreds of patients with it and have done research with it as well. The most common side effects in the long run are dry mouth, constipation, difficulty urinating if the doses too high especially, andblurred vision only close up reading. An occasional patient will also have G.I. Upset. Lightheadedness and dizziness is a function of dose and can be regulated by checking a blood level if necessary. If you find yourself being lightheaded or dizzy make sure that you get up slowly from a lying or sitting position and dangling legs over the side of the bed especially the middle of the night for about 30 seconds will allow the blood to move up up towards your head so you won't get lightheaded or dizzy standing. Anoccasional craving for sweets can occur with this medication and is to some degree dose dependent. Best wishes. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Switched from travatan to cosopt 1mo. Ago due to side effects. Cosopt lowered pressure 2-3 pts more & near vision improved. Could cosopt cause this?
Yes: Two reasons i think: 1st- is that if you had problems with travatan and it was causing corneal irritation, then switching to Cosopt that doesn't cause this could improve vision. 2nd- unusually Cosopt may cause transient myopia (reversible when stopping) which would improve your near vision. Chronic treatment of glaucoma has been associated with faster cataract formation, usually increased myopia. ...Read more

Does using gripe water along with dentinox colic drops for babies have side effects? Sedative? Harmful?
Usually ok: Doctors usually don't give babies any medications, even over-the-counter items, unless there's good benefit. A mom can bring the items to the doctor to check the ingredients, but a little bit of a trusted brand of gas drops and gripe water drops are ok to try. They may or may not help any colicky symptoms. If they don't seem to help, then they shouldn't be used. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
