Sonogram (Definition)

An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more

Hcg levels at 2600. Ultrasound Shows nothing. Why?!

Hcg levels: Sometimes nothing is present until 3000plus. When a pregnancy shows up on Ultrasound varies. I tend to repeat levels to see if rising appropriately (at least 15-20%) in 3 days is ok and most of my early pregnancies I do a progesterone level. Most ectopic or non viable pregnancies will quickly drop progesterone below 2. See if your doc will order another hcg and progesterone or repeat US 1 wk. ...Read more

Yes, pregnant...: Your HCG is going up; you are definitely pregnant! The HCG level is still pretty low. I would suspect that you are less than 5 weeks now and the pregnancy will be visible on ultrasound in a few weeks. Best wishes! ...Read more

Talk to your doctor!: Hcg - the hormone of pregnancy - will double every two to three days during the first part of the pregnancy. By the time the HCG is over 1500, the pregnancy can usually be seen on ultrasound. A low HCG level can mean a woman is having a miscarriage, but it might also mean a tubal or ectopic pregnancy, which can be dangerous to you. Please talk to your doctor and get your questions cleared up! ...Read more

Non viable pregnancy: In a viable pregnancy hcg concentrations typically double every 48 hours. If this is not the case, and if moreover hog concentrations start to drop again, then there is concern for an impending miscarriage. If more than one sac is seen in early pregnancy on ultrasound this can indicate that there is a twin pregnancy. ...Read more

On oct 22 my hcg level was 5000 and i been getting positive test. On today i went for an ultrasound and they couldn't find anything. Should i be worried?

5000: It's tricky to give good answer without more information but basically you should see an intrauterine pregnancy at hCG above 2000. You would NOT however see fetal pole or heartbeats at 5000. Work closely with your doctor, hope this helps. ...Read more

My last period was 5/18 my hCG level was 386.0 today my levels were 92000 but my ultrasound only showed a sac. Is this normal?

Probably not: If you had and HCG level of 386 taken 7 weeks ago, i would expect a fetal pole and a heart beat. You could have lost that pregnancy and gotten pregnant again but would have noticed bleeding and then i wouldn't expect your HCG level to be so high. You should be following up with your physician soon. ...Read more
