Is the hCG diet and injections safe and effective?

Is the hCG diet and injections safe and effective?

NO: I get asked this question a lot. I tell patients think about what you're doing exactly: 1. Taking a hormone that can modulate other hormones and is only elevated during pregnancy (un-natural) 2. You're ingesting merely 500 calories, some docs have modified it to 750 calories. But still too low for any person. It works as an immediate, fast tool for weight loss but not for good! ...Read more

Testosterone Boosters pills sold in supplement stores, will it increase free testosterone for a 30 year male who lifts weights 4 times a week?

Testosterone Boosters pills sold in supplement stores, will it increase free testosterone for a 30 year male who lifts weights 4 times a week?

Low testosterone?: I agree that only testosterone will significantly raise levels, and that the exercise is more likely to have an effect than the booster pills. Please note also: Some medical societies recommend testosterone only for low blood levels w certain symptoms (eg thin bones, fatigue, breast tissue). Low testosterone in a young man can be a pituitary or testis problem, & should be evaluated by a doc. ...Read more

Pt is prescribed testosterone pellets for low t, uses as directed, and tests at 3.77:1 test-epi. Anything unlikely/fishy there re:athletic doping?

Probably not . . .: Check out http://www.Webmd.Com/fitness-exercise/features/steroid-doping-questions-answers. Wada considers 4:1 as maximum to be normal so 3.77:1 is normal whereas 11:1 as in article would be consistent w/using performance enhancing drug eg anabolic steroid. However, that doesn't make t pellet legal for competition, just that someone got lucky at that test. ...Read more

HCG Diet: I would not advise using the HCG diet! the diet was introduce in the 1950's and every study has shown that it does not work. There are significant problems that the HCG diet can cause and most people that prescribe it do not know of all the possible complications. ...Read more

What is the accurate dosing for HCG 23 day diet plan?

What is the accurate dosing for HCG 23 day diet plan?

HCGdiet looks unsafe: The HCG diet has a person eating 500 calories a day for more than a month. That's just one big slice of pizza a day. A 4-month old baby eats 500 calories a day. Anybody on 500 calories a day is on a starvation diet and will lose weight. It doesn't sound safe. Extremely low calorie diets don't work because the weight comes back when one starts eating again. Long-term lifestyle changes are needed. ...Read more

Can(not will) doctors prescribe HCG for boosting low T in male, and can insurances cover HCG? (in general, not asking about any specific insurance)

Hypogonadism: hCG can be prescribed off-label to treat younger men w/documented hypogonadism who want to maintain their fertility. In these circumstances, some insurances may cover hCG cost after much cajoling by prescribing physician but no guarantees. Clomiphene & tamoxifen are also used off-label too for same purpose: stimulate testes to produce more testosterone & sperm. But 1st, find cause of hypogonadism. ...Read more

I'm 9 wks pregnant & vegan & have high B12 stores (supplements).I stopped taking B12 for a week to reduce levels. Does fetus access intake or stores?

Stores: Liver stores about a year's worth of B12 in some one with normal B12 levels. However, B12 is not the only nutrient to be concerned about as a vegan, You should take at least Vitamin D supplement in addition to B12. However, It is imperative that you discuss any medications, including non-prescription medications with your doctor. Wish you good health and a healthy baby. ...Read more

Lupron (leuprolide) depot not covered by ins.. Pharmacy will not accept medication discount from drug company. Any lower cost alternatives for tx of endometriosis?

Endo: First off, i wouldn't give up so easily. Call the pharmaceutical company and ask for help obtaining your prescription from a different pharmacy. But if that fails, there are other less effective options: Depo-Provera provera, (medroxyprogesterone) continuous low dose birth control pills, and danocrine. And, i've seen people get pain relief from acupuncture! also an herbal supplement called "pine bark extract" may help. ...Read more
