Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

Doctor said that some sensitive home pregnancy tests can pick up a positive result with an hCG level of just 1mlu. Possible? How?

Doctor said that some sensitive home pregnancy tests can pick up a positive result with an hCG level of just 1mlu. Possible? How?

Does it matter?: Most tests pick up a bhcg of about 20. I am not sure why this is useful information though. A bhcg coubles every 48 hours. Even in the rare cicumstance where someone checks a test so early it can not detect it (say a level of 19) 48 hours later your level is high enough for detection. Home pregnancy tests are very simple and very accurate. ...Read more

Four weeks pregnant light bleeding that stopped still positive on home pregnancy tests hCG level on Tuesday was 24 and Thursday was 23. Any hope?

Hcg levels: It really shouldn't go down. However, if the tests were done at 2 different labs you can't compare the two being a couple days apart. I would repeat the level in about a week. Might be a good idea to check a progesterone level as well as very low levels are associated with miscarriage or tubal pregnancy. ...Read more

My hCG levels dropped from 87000 to 77000. I didn't have any bleeding or cramping and after 2w I still get positive pregnancy tests. What's going on?

My hCG levels dropped from 87000 to 77000. I didn't have any bleeding or cramping and after 2w I still get positive pregnancy tests. What's going on?

HCG varies: HCH testing is useful for confirmation in early pregnancy, and to evaluate for a miscarriage. It varies daily and is not stable so, in general, comparisons are rarely useful. Your positive pregnancy tests are reassuring that you are still pregnant. Discuss with your provider whether or not another hCG measurement to reassure or clarify is indicated. ...Read more

I did have unprotected sex he pulled out. I am 9 days late and negative pregnancy tests. Does hcg take longer to show up in some women?

You may wait 4-5 days and repeat hpt Use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the test carefully. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time, every time. You may consider implanted contraceptive, or IUD. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine. ...Read more

Blood test at 6 hCG on Tuesday, now Friday and I am still getting positive pregnancy tests. Is this normal? Is there a chance of me being pregnant?

Blood test at 6 hCG on Tuesday, now Friday and I am still getting positive pregnancy tests. Is this normal? Is there a chance of me being pregnant?

Pregnancy test: Are both levels 6? If so, you just need a follow up level in 1 week and weekly until negative. If the levels roughly double up every 2 days, or at least rise by 2/3ds, that is an indication of normal pregnancy. Otherwise, it is most likely a miscarriage, less likely an ectopic pregnancy, It is important to follow the levels until they reach non pregnant levels. Blood type needs to be checked also ...Read more

My daughter was on the omni diet. She took 4 pregnancy tests and they have all came back positive.  She was told there is not enough hcg in the drops.

My daughter was on the omni diet. She took 4 pregnancy tests and they have all came back positive.  She was told there is not enough hcg in the drops.

Maybe pregnant: If she was taking unregulated nonFDA approved BHCG drops then it is hard to know. If the home tests are positive then one has to assume it is a real pregnancy before assuming it is a side effect of a diet supplement. She should see an Obgyn for confirmation. ...Read more

Hi I had a blood serum hcg test a couple of days ago the result was less than 1 however I'm still getting positive pregnancy tests?

Repeat test: Blood test is generally more reliable than urine test. You may wish to repeat the blood test in 4-5 days, unless you get a period by then. I trust that you did the test, after a missed period. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex, if you have sex. ...Read more

2 positive home pregnancy tests. Internal scan done and measured at 3-4 weeks pregnant. Could only see? Sac. 10000 hcg. Should I worry?

Likely no: It would be perfectly normal to see solely a sac at 3-4 weeks of pregnancy. There is a very wide range of 'normal' in regards to HCG levels. It's great that they saw a sac, hopefully they are planning on a follow up ultrasound to see heartbeat? Http://americanpregnancy. Org/duringpregnancy/hcglevels. Html ultrasound is more reliable than HCG for dating. A follow up ultrasound would be good. ...Read more

A friend of mine claims Paragard IUDs can cause positive pregnancy tests, by producing the hCG hormone. This is completely false, right?

Wrong: Paragard IUDs do not cause + pregnancy tests, so if somebody does have a positive pregnancy test with a Paragard IUD in place, this should be evaluated further to determine if the pregnancy is in the uterus or outside the uterus (ectopic pregnancy) ...Read more

What causes some women to produce such excessive amounts of hCG that it causes all urine/blood pregnancy tests to be false negatives? (hook effect)

What causes some women to produce such excessive amounts of hCG that it causes all urine/blood pregnancy tests to be false negatives? (hook effect)

Natural variation: There are biological variations in hormone levels as well as other characteristics, e.g. Height, among individuals. The normal levels of all hormones have a wide range and this range is even more marked with hcg. See this site for more info though it does not address your question directly.
