U r NOT pregnant: This long after intercourse the ball of cells would have implanted in the uterine wall and have been pumping out ever increasing amounts of human chorionic gonadotrophin. The fact that the assay could not even detect even 1 unit implies that you have no functioning placenta growing - i.e. no pregnancy! ...Read more

When should I take blood quantitative beta HCG test after intercourse/sex? Is it accurate enough if I do that 2 weeks after intercourse/sex?

When should I take blood quantitative beta HCG test after intercourse/sex? Is it accurate enough if I do that 2 weeks after intercourse/sex?

It depends...: A blood test is fairly accurate about 7-10 days after intercourse. Qualitative (not quantitative) blood tests are usually used to detect pregnancy. Home urine pregnancy tests are about 99% accurate if it has been one week since a period was missed. They may detect a pregnancy earlier than that but are less reliable to rule out pregnancy. ...Read more

When does the smallest, undetectable amount of hCG start to be produced after intercourse? (pregnancy related hcg).

When does the smallest, undetectable amount of hCG start to be produced after intercourse? (pregnancy related hcg).

Accuracy trumps time: Quantitative blood (serum) tests detect HCG levels at 1 miu/ml. This must be ordered by a doctor. Urine tests advertise detection thresholds between 20 and 100 miu/ml, but this depends on the brand. Qualitative blood tests generally have a threshold of 25 miu/ml, and so are less sensitive than some available home pregnancy tests. Time is less important that accuracy and confirmation by physician. ...Read more

How fast-or how many days does it take for hCG to be produced for it to show up in a urine home pregnant test? Would a day after intercourse be too soon?

How fast-or how many days does it take for hCG to be produced for it to show up in a urine home pregnant test? Would a day after intercourse be too soon?

At menses: Since most home urine pregnancy tests detect the HCG at levels above 25-30, and HCG levels are approximately 100 at the time of expected menses, a home test can usually detect a pregnancy 1-2 before expected menses. Blood tests are more sensitive detecting HCG levels above 5. ...Read more

I'm confused:some doctors say that an hCG level of 634 is possible only a few days after intercourse? Others say no it would be a week +into pregnancy

Not possible.: It's impossible for HCG to be detected in the blood until after the embryo implants into the lining of the uterus. This happens at about 7 days after conception. For the first few days after conception, the embryo is free floating. There is no way to detect a pregnancy until implantation occurs. You'll need to use your judgement about which answer seems correct. ...Read more

Do I need to repeat quantitative beta HCG blood test if I get <0.1mIU/ml at 5 weeks after intercourse? Or can I rule pregnancy out?

Do I need to repeat quantitative beta HCG blood test if I get <0.1mIU/ml at 5 weeks after intercourse? Or can I rule pregnancy out?

If 5 weeks after sex: Pregnancy tests are very accurate and not affected by foods, herbs, common illnesses, sexually transmitted diseases, vaginal spotting, or medications. A urine test gives a reliable result 3 weeks after last sex or 1 week after missing a period. A blood test should be positive a few days or a week earlier than that, but one need not do a blood test. Urine tests are very accurate and cheap to do. ...Read more

Would a quant hcg test be accurate 14-15 days after intercourse? <2 and doctor told me it would be accurate by now but just want a second opinion. Absolutely not pregnant?

About absolutes...: The only absolutes in life are "death and taxes, " as the saying goes. Patience is a virtue. Pregnancy tests are very accurate 3 weeks after sex. There is almost never a need to test before then. If tested less than 2 weeks after sex, a positive result is likely real, but a negative result may be due to testing too early. Thus, to avoid repeat testing, one can do her first test 3 weeks after sex. ...Read more
