ERM & Cataracts: Epiretinal membranes (ERM) can affect central vision. A PAM (Potential Acuity Meter) can determine if it is just the cataract affecting general vision or the ERM. If ERM small, might still have 20/20 with PAM. Brightness acuity test (BAT): generally tells us how bad the cataract is. OCT (optical coherence tomography) tells us how significant ERM is. Probably dry eye: This is most common when first waking up and the blurry vision is temporary. Artificial tears over the counter will help. Make sure it does NOT contain any redness or itching reliever in it. Just a pure lubricating drop. Use this through out the day and when waking up. Generally 3-4x/day. Dry eye is very common.
