How is nicotine expelled from the body? I am a light smoker, i smoke 2-3 cigarettes in a 24 hour period.
If you smoke that: Little, there is no reason you can't stop. Even 2-3 cigarettes a day causes a measurable increase in problems like coronary heart disease, stroke, bronchitis and cancer. Nicotine is metabolized to cotinine which is excreted in urine, but while nicotine is present, it causes vasoconstriction, clamping down and depriving the vessels of oxygen, increasing arteriosclerosis in heart, brain, elsewhere. ...Read more

Quit smoking a month ago. Been sick and coughing up green mucus since then. Is that normal with quitting smoking, or have I caught a lengthy cold?
Quit smoking . . .: Congratulations on breaking the habit & quitting smoking! In general, tobacco smoke tends to deaden cilia, little hairs that sweep debris out of breathing tubes. After you quit smoking, cilia come back to life & start removing junk that's been building up all the time you were smoking. That's why many ex-smokers report worse cough after quitting! But stick with it so that cilia can clean up lungs! ...Read more
I stopped smoking for a week n had been experiencing serious shortness of breath. Upon smoking a few cigarettes I felt my nose clear nsuddenly ok. Y?
Stopping is best: You nasal passages and throat and lungs have had years of serious toxicity from tobacco smoke, they have adapted to this nightmare you are putting them through. You stopped and they had to re-adjust and there will be changes. Be patient because the good to come will far outweigh any temporary adjustment. Get off the cigarettes and stay off. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Why all of a sudden when I smoke cigarettes do I become nausea and dry heave? Never happened b4. Been smoking for years.
Moot question: Rather than dealing w/nausea & dry heaves, it's time to quit smoking. If symptoms continue after quitting, go see your FamilyDoc for evaluation. Heavy nasal fluid after smoking hookah(sheesha). Is this the cause? I'm smoker and smoked hookah on that day.
Quit smoking a week ago cold turkey, lost my appetite. Also food smells and tastes rotten even if fresh. Just nicotine withdrawal or something else?
I have circuitous of the liver. I quit smoking cigarettes and started smoking e cigarette which is worse I'm planning on quitting soon. Have I hurt m?
Probably not: There is no evidence that electronic cigarettes are worse than cigarettes, just a lack of evidence that they are any better. They do not have the high tar content of smoking tobacco, but they have the same amount of nicotine, and we simply don't know what the other things in e-cigs do - the propellant, oils, flavorings etc. It will not have done any more harm than smoking, and perhaps less. ...Read more
I have been a smoker for 7years.I quit &have been smoking an oil vapor e cig.I started coughing up small light grey chunks in my mucous. Is this normal?
Not Normal: Coughing up small kight grey chunks in your mucous is not normal..But what is the cause. Sometimes after stopping smoking patients will actually produce more sputum/mucous for awhile because their "cilia" are no longer paralyzed. Why not also try a patch or some gum and see what that does? Hard to know all that's in the e-cigarette? ...Read more

Could "cold flashes" instead of hot flashes be a sign of approaching menopause? I'm 46 and never skipped my period since I was 13.
Well, in fact - yes!: Falling estrogen levels can cause of both hot and cold flashes. The hypothalamus, the brain area responsible for body temperature regulation, becomes overactive. It releases chemicals that cause blood vessels in the skin to expand so heat can be released. The end result is a cold flash. So many possibilities for different women.
