I had a mole removed yesterday and the doctor was surprised to find a cyst under my mole. Is that normal or bad?

Not unusual: It is not good or bad. It can just happen. The mole probably grew over a hair follicle or a sweat gland. The hair follicle and or sweat gland probably just got clogged and formed a cyst. ...Read more

Raised scar: After removal of a mole by shaving it the scar can become raised. This is called hypertrophic scar. It responds well to injections with kenalog (triamcinolone) (a steroid). Certain laser treatments can help as well. As a last resort it can be completely excised. If the first time no biopsy was done you should so a biopsy as well. ...Read more

Any : Any surgical excision of a mole or any other facial lesion will always leave a scar. Bigger lesions will leave bigger scars. Scars may be favorable or unfavorable. Favorable scars have more natural color, are flat and blend in with the lines of the face. Unfavorable scars may be raised, irregular, or run against the natural lines of one's face. Plastic surgeons are uniquely qualified to asses a patient's face when removing cancer or moles and provide the most "favorable" scar possible. ...Read more

Since the age of 12 i have had excess hair growth on parts of my body that a woman usually shouldn't have. Could i have hirsutism?

It is Hormonal: Excess of hair on the body in women is called Hirsutism. The extent and degree range from normal to slight or severe excess. If you think these are getting worse, you should go see a doctor dealing with Hormone disorders(Endocrinologist) or see a gynecologist. This can be sorted out with further testing to check all your Hormone making glands in your body. ...Read more

I have a mole that has hairs that grow out of it so I pluck them, it also has recently developed a zit in it which I also popped. Any concerns?

Not really: This does sound like a troublesome benign nevus (I'm assuming it's stable) and you're welcome to have it removed. ...Read more

I have a birth mark on the back of my head, but my hair covers it. If I were to get it removed, will I have a bald spot?

I have a birth mark on the back of my head, but my hair covers it. If I were to get it removed, will I have a bald spot?

Yes, a small one...: about the width of the scar. When a lesion is removed, the surgery approximates the skin margins together so that it heals promptly, but the scar itself will not have hair follicles. Usually hair around it grows and covers the scar, so it is not noticeable unless one's head is shaved. If there is a concern about the birth mark and skin cancer, your life is most important. ...Read more

How do I get rid of this dead skin/scar tissue that is found on either side of my tongue? I have had it for over a year now.

How do I get rid of this dead skin/scar tissue that is found on either side of my tongue? I have had it for over a year now.

Callous?: I've seen situations when people bite on the sides of their tongue enough to thicken the skin creating a callous. This often appears white because of the moist environment. I agree that the best bet is to get it evaluated but it may be this benign condition. It could be removed but if it is scalloped in appearance and falls around your teeth, your bite is the culprit and it will likely recur. ...Read more

I have to have a wisdom tooth pulled it not impacted i've had a few of my molars removed in the past is it going to be the same?

Similar but...: Honestly, it is really hard to answer that question not having seen you, the x-rays of all the teeth (extracted as well as the wisdom tooth). The reason for that is twofold. First, a badly broken down or decayed tooth may post more difficulty in removing. Secondly, some teeth appear simple to take out and yet are difficult and vice versa. In general, if not impacted should be equal in removal. ...Read more

I had a mole removal surgery and apparently a hidden cyst was removed at the same time. Scar was healing fine, until I noticed string is coming out. What do I do?

See your doctor: I don't know what this string may be, depends on the color and consistency. Your wound may be infected if it is also red, swollen, and tender. I would have your doctor who removed it take a look at it. ...Read more
