Not so likely: Women with polycystic ovaries are at increased risk for endometrial cancer because of the hormonal chaos. The cysts of the ovaries in polycystic disease aren't undergoing rapid cell turnover, hence the low cancer risk. By contrast, primary cancers announce themselves as individual cysts but grow rapidly. ...Read more
Partial thyroidectomy in 2006 for nodule, result was benign. Been on 100mcg Synthroid (thyroxine) but a new small nodule has appeared. Had ultrasound and told to not worry and come back in 1 yr. Do you agree?
Yes: Nodules are common in the thyroid. As long as you have thyroid tissues, there is always a chance of a new nodule popping up. If the past surgery was benign, and the new nodule is small, you can follow it with regular ultrasound and act on it (biopsy) only if there are significant changes on the ultrasound. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

during both cysts I have put on a horrendous amount of weight but eating?
Can u still have endometriosis or ovarian cancer w/ a clear transvaginal ultrasound? My doc says my ovaries are normal and my tiny cyst is gone. I have tons of pelvic pain & my mom has the brca2 gene.
Yes and No: Yes: you could definitely have endometriosis with a clear ultrasound, but would not likely have an endometrioma of the ovary no: it would be pretty unlikely to have ovarian cancer with a clear ultrasound and even if you did have extremely early undetectable cancer, it would not cause pain. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Not sure...: Thyroid levels can fluctate, so even if it was normal once, it can be abnormal later. Check with your endocrinologist. If you feel a lump in your neck, get it looked at. The endocrinologist can also likely take care of the evaluation for that, but you might need an ENT to look further into it. ...Read more

Thyroid: In most labs the TSH level would be quite low and indicate hyperthyroidism (excess T4) though this should be measured to ensure it is not due to other factors. You should be evaluated for the various causes like Graves, Toxic adenoma, and hyperplasia. Then a best treatment can be offered. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Just found out I have MTHFR homozygous 1298. Had breast cancer at age 24 and have raynaud's (no ANA/thyroid issues detected), could that be related?
No: Get with a responsible holistic-focused practitioner in your community who can help you make sense out of the MTHFR business. A majority of people test "abnormal", most of the pathology community is unconvinced this is useful information, and I'd be more interested in your being screened for tumor family genes. I'm very glad the cancer was detected and wish you the best. ...Read more
