No: An x-ray of the lumbar spine would predominantly show only bone. In general, an x-ray is not a very sensitive test to detect the specific cause of back pain in most patients. Consider requesting an MRI which shows the bone, but also shows the nerves, discs, and other soft tissues of the back and is therefore much more sensitive than an x-ray. ...Read more

No: Most back pain, even severe, can be managed at home and clinic by an experienced physician. For walking difficulty and weakness, physical therapy may be needed. At your age, you may start with a chiropractor, then a md/do. ...Read more

I've been having low back pain around the kidney area, but experiencing no other symptoms. Is it most likely just muscular?

Spine Pain Options: This chronic pain in the distribution as you suggested is the result of an irritated nerve or facet joints or other injury typically in the spine (low back) which are caused by herniated disks, spinal stenosis or degenerative disc disease, etc requiring further evaluation by a spine specialist and may be candidate for facet injections/radiofrequency ablation and epidural steroid injection. ...Read more

I'm having mid to low back pain that radiates around to my front on both sides. The pain is moderate. Could this be kidney pain what should I do?

Sounds like LBP: It is unlikely that kidney pain refers to the feet, but is very likely that you may have a pinched nerve in your back. I would see your md for an evaluation and treatment plan. ...Read more

I have a cyst in my right kidney dimension 1 litre or 12 cm diameter. I also have low back pain due to 2 damaged discs. My questions are: 1 - Does the cyst impact the back pain negatively? 2 - Should I have the cyst removed? Any surgery risk?

Hard to say-maybe: That's an impressive sized cyst in the kidney & may be big enough to refer pain itself to the back. The presence of degenerative disks in the back likely means overall pain is a combination of both problems happening at once. Surgical risks are present in ALL cases where anesthesia is given. Is low back pain a clear indication that I have problem with my kidneys? My crea is normal but in the kub utz, the finding is "parenchymal disease"!

Kidney function: Low back pain is the second most common outpatient complaint in this country. I can't tell you what is causing your lumbago without taking at least a careful history. If your creatinine and GFR are normal, this means that you don't have any indication of medical renal disease. 'parenchymal disease' is very vague. It could mean that inflammation or structural abnormality of the tissue is suspected. ...Read more
