My 13 wk baby has been on Nutramigen for 2 months for suspected intolerances, there has been no improvement, is it safe to try dairy formula again?

What symptoms ?: I would recommend discussing this with your pediatrician. What do you mean "suspected intolerances" - what are the symptoms? There are many "symptoms" that could erroneously be blamed on formula. Before you go and change things up, discuss the symptoms with the pediatrician - as they were the ones that started the nutramigen they will know more about what has been going on and have full details. ...Read more

Mild sedation: is the expected side effect although not a lot gets into the breast milk with infrequent use. It is not recommended for regular use by breastfeeding mothers as it has not been fully tested. I do not think it places your baby at risk based on the description you provide. ...Read more

My baby has been suffering from diarrhea since 9 days. There is no fever. Is coconut milk better for my baby'sdiarrhea instead of cow's milk ? Can diarrhea be there maybe because of teething?

No coconut milk!: Most diarrhe in children is caused by viral infection and most of them get better within days. Just make sure your child us hydrated . If the child has tears, has lots of saliva and urinating they are fine. Give oral rehydration solutions like pedialyte to replace lost fluids and electrolytes. If there are signs of dehydration or if the diarrhea lasts for more than 3 to 4 days see the doctor. ...Read more

Has nasalcrom (cromolyn) been discontinued from the stores?

Cromolyn spray OTC: You can still buy Nasalcrom (cromolyn) in the stores or on amazon, eg ($14). It's available without a prescription. Sometimes the small bottles are stored behind the counter to prevent shoplifters from "palming" them and walking out. Ask the pharmacist where to look or order some online. They may be out if it's peak allergy season, or they may not have had much demand for it. If you ask, they can get it. ...Read more

Sons on miralax, (polyethylene glycol)2 cap fills a day since he 2 yo,now he's 7. Recently Ex-Lax has been added every other day for constipation. Long term side affects?

Constipation: Long term use of Miralax (polyethylene glycol) is not associated with any long term side effects. The same can not be said for ex lax. I do not want to counter the advice given by his doctor as I do not know his medical history and how severe his constipation is. The problem with laxatives when they are used long term is the body gets used to them and then we can't go without them, but if he isn't anyway no problem. ...Read more

Can I use milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for primer despite of i once had kidney stone problem?

Can I use milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for primer despite of i once had kidney stone problem?

Sure: This has nothing to do with kidney stones. Most stones are calcium-based and even then, the problem usually isn't so much excess calcium as insufficient water intake. I'm sorry you ended up with acne scars -- today this is 100% preventable. Truth be told, my hope is that as you approach adulthood, you have greater access to and a better relationship with a personal physician. Best wishes. ...Read more
