Patience: Baby acne is a common and temporary problem. It usually appears by age 2 weeks and disappears by 3 months. Keeping the skin clean is the major plan. If it persists after 3 months and or intensifies, some normal ace treatments can be beneficial, but the doc should look into unusual hormonal issues as a cause at that point. ...Read more

Will rubbing a pee-soaked diaper on an infant's face and/or tongue cure him of thrush and baby acne?

Will rubbing a pee-soaked diaper on an infant's face and/or tongue cure him of thrush and baby acne?

Not advisable: There is much folklore surrounding the use of urine as a cure-all, but little evidence of any benefit. Urine should be sterile and not cause disease, but there are much better treatments for both oral thrush and acne. Baby acne does not need treatment and will go away on its own. Benzoyl peroxide is far more effective for treatment of adult acne. ...Read more

Is there something I can do for my baby's complexion while he has baby acne?

Is there something I can do for my baby's complexion while he has baby acne?

No need to...: Treatment of acne is something you do for someone who is embarrassed to appear in public (or on a date) with zits and pimples. I think it's safe to assume that a newborn is unlikely to feel embarrassment, and in any case acne goes away by 6 mo. I would suggest simply avoiding things that make it (and other skin conditions) worse, such as harsh soaps, rubbing, wet wipes, and overuse of steroids. ...Read more
