I have irregular bowel movements. I have soft stool that is hard to pass and few tiny stool comes out. What could be the problem?
Urge to have bowel movements but when I go I can't or only manage to get a few hard pebbles. Increased fiber, water, exercise, stool Softener. IBS?
Not necessarily: One with constipation needs to be sure there is no other disease causing it. If constipation is just due to slow movement of the food and poop through the gut, then the things to try are vegetables, water, prune juice, prunes, fiber+water, Miralax, (polyethylene glycol) senokot or other senna, milk of magnesia, other laxatives... A doctor can evaluate and prescribe medication like Linzess, if laxatives aren't working. ...Read more

In order to heal, you should take something to soften your stool (metamucil or MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) are very good otc products), and you may want to try some Hydrocortisone cream to the anus, if it hurts. ...Read more
What does it mean to have a redundant colon? And can that make it harder to have a bowel movement? Or more easily constipated
Longer, more turns: A "redundant colon" means the dr found it to be longer than usual with more twists and turns. Typically we think that the redundancy is because of problems with constipation rather than the cause of constipation. You should be on a high fiber diet with MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) or similar agent to keep the stools soft and moving through your colon easily. ...Read more
